I just checked on my A. Avic. only to find him DOA.

I don't know what in the frig went on with him... I actually held him twice this week and he was fine... although I did notice that he was a little sluggish.

One culprit could be this mysterious white substance that he's had on his underside on his fangs since I purchased him at the last Hamburg show. Of course I didn't notice it until I put him in his enclosure and I saw his underside.

I am assuming that he is captive breed and I did not have him in a communial enclosure. Furthermore no strange smells were noted in the enclosure and it has always been free of deceased prey, mites and gnats.

Below are a few pics of him for referance...

Poor Mr. Pink... :(

None of my other 36 tarantulas have any of the strange white material on their undersides...

I am so sorry to hear about your loss :(

I just went through the SAME thing...here are pics:

I had the Avic for 9 years, since she was a sling :( I had the baboon about 5 years, since it was a sling.

I don't know what caused it yet, I started some threads and they received some good replies.

I feed them crickets from the pet store, and some from mike's premium crickets. I have over 40 spiders, and I am so worried some other spider could catch this disease :(

Just thought I would share the sympathy with you....

DOA means "dead on arrival" mostly used when talking about getting a box with a dead T in it that you bought.
Sorry for the loss! I hate losing T's :8o

....soooooo....
Does anyone have a clue what it is that caused his untimely demise? :?
It looks awful ~ but I could use some more info. I've never run into this sort of thing with my own T's yet, (TG!) but what if I ever do?

Do any of you Oldtimer's have any guesses as what this weird white stuff is?

What if you arrive to find him dead? Anyway, sorry for your loss. I just lost my little B. auratum last month.

Possible nematodes infection?
Check here. You might want to start isolating everything like tools, enclosures, decors and anything else that has been used with that T. Not to scare you, but this could easily infect your collection.
