I am in the middle of writing an essay for my English class, and the topic of course is tarantula keeping.
I need to know approximately (or better yet, exactly) when the first tarantulas were imported specifically for the pet trade in the United States. I had always assumed that it was in the 1970's, but I can't really remember where I got this information, and I'd like to site it. Also, were the first imports Brachypelma smithi?
Any information would be greatly appreciated, and all authors will be given proper credit. I have tried various Google searches and I'm not really coming up with the information that I am looking for.
Thanks!
Audrey
I've found some archived newspaper articles from 1976, but nothing prior.
