Hi all, greeting from a scorpion keeper from Malaysia
As we all know pheromones plays important role when it comes to mating in scorpion
We can even make a pair of male scorp gaying each other
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=38663

Here's my question
- Scorpions secrete pheromones from which part of their anatomy?
- At which instar/age does a scorpion develop the ability to use pheromones?
- Does male scorpion have their own uniques pheromones that define them as a male too?

Thanks in advance,
Pardon my bad english, i'm not very good in it :wall:

Unpublished reshearch by P Brownel indicates that pheromones are produced by glands associated with tha anus at the end of the metasoma.
The pectines of both sexes, particularly of males contain numerous chemoreceptors that are extremely sensitive to such pheromones.

I dont think males produce any sort of smell as they are initiating courtship after finding a female .they are using a specific set of vibrations using legs, tail, pincers to let her know what the biz is about..

That's a very good info, mate!
Thanks for sharing, i always thought that they produce pheromones from their opperculum opening
Do they actually rub their glands on substrate/wall while marking their pheromones around?

Does this also mean that, usually when mating a scorpion, we should put the female in the new container and let her mark her pheromones around first before putting in the male?
Thanks again!

Thanx! or should i say thank you mister Pollis!

The MALE should be introduced to the female, a few minutes later, it will begin to explore the new surroundings and sense the female's presence (pheromones are a volatile chemical substance). Once detected,he begins vibrating, rapidly moving his legs and shaking his body, sending vibration which the female will feel and interprete.
She will leave her burrow, rush at him in a mock attack, back off and then launch additional mock attacks. The male may sting her to calm her down, then the dancing begins and the whole reproduction process can start... to make it short..
