Okay, bear with me. My niece has decided that she loves that a whole classification of spiders are called pokies. She is wondering which is the most purple, because clearly that must be the best one. If there was a pokie that was purple and pink, THAT one would clearly be the best one.

Is your niece responsible enough for an OW? If so maybe P. metallica might be the closest to purple, sure it's blue but I've never heard of purple pokies before. I hear they can be quite reclusive too so that might be something to consider

Oh she doesn't want one. She wants ME to want one. Presently, I am the proud owner of two lovely regalis and one minuscule Metallica. She's not old enough to understand the classic beauty of gray on gray, and she's not a big believer in the color blue in general. She was a bit miffed that I had the option to order a purple spider and didn't. Frankly, I think she's been spoiled since I received my avicularia purpurea.

And I feel that a lot of the mature females of the genus have lovely plummy shades of purple in their pattern.

She should be pleased with your growing Phormictopus collection, then. Do you have a P. cautus 'violoet' already? or a Dominican purple? And you definitely need a T. ockerti - they don't have a red butt but a pink butt.

When it comes to Pokies I'd think ornata is showing some purple in the right light, but I'm not really a Pokie specialist.

Nope, just the named varieties (cancerides, auratus, atrichomatus), P. "Full Green," and P. "Gold Carapace." No one seems to have the violets blues and purples in at present. Maybe Tom Moran will feel sorry for me and send me one of his girls.

Bwahahaha! Yeah, right. Those girls are his spirit daughters from a previous life.

Pretty much all Poecs have purple hue after moulting. Probably most noticeable in miranda, ornata, formosa & subfusca.

Tarantulas can be strange when it comes to colour. This my P. subfusca lowland. She looks a little purple.

But get the right light and closer and she looks a lot more purple.

A girl after my own heart. I feel about purple tarantulas the way many feel about blue. There are just not enough of them.

Now obviously not a pokie but would your niece care? This gorgeous gal has got the pink and purple boxes both ticked.

I thought it was pretty clear from the wording that she was just interested in pokies as an idea.

This is my P. Miranda, my friend said he had "rave legs" DSC_0093.JPG

Also, may I introduce you to this terrible picture of my C. Fimbriatus? I know I've posted it before, but come on why aren't more people excited about these? Just look at the Purple on the legs and the nice orange abdomen with tiger stripes.

Girly girls of the World Unite!

Pamphobeteus sp Costa.

I asked her about Pamphos and her response was they're really pretty, but she'd rather I spent the money on Frozen Custard for her and me to share. True story.

You could get an Avicularia purpurea... And call it Pokie. Short of that, @basin79's P. subfusca lowland is about as purple a pokie as my peepers have peeped!
funny you should say that. I got a colorform purpurea in the mail yesterday that could tap dance on my pinky finger nail without touching the edges. It is a tiny little thing, and it's name is so going to be Pokey now! However, the big girly girl may have to have a purple pokey as well.

View media item 47025 that's so beautiful I can't stand it. Seriously. I'm going to knit a sweater with this photo as my inspiration. I want this on a pillow made of antique wool.

Potato shot of subfusca
okay, admitting to being so uncool, why is it called a potato shot? Dare I even ask?

Yummy! You know you've crossed some line into middle-aged when your spiders have an infinitely more exciting social life than you do. Totally living vicariously through arachnid sex. Lassie, get help!

I love the purple hues on ornata

They're probably not excited about it because they never see it! WAH WAH WAH.

Maybe mine is broken then because she made a little canopy over her burrow, anchored to the lid and with entrances and everything, and I think she's really proud of it because I always see her hanging half out of her burrow. This is a species that will teleport though. She shot down her burrow once while my dad was looking at her and he was surprised he actually jumped. Here's another picture of her just for fun :) (container she was in on the way back from the expo, had no burrowing room so I rehoused her right away.) Also I never realized that her legs went from orange to purple after her last molt until now.

Agree on the Ornata, in the right lighting mine can have that purple tint with a sort of green glow underneath that is stunning! I don't have one myself, but I've seen a couple Formosa as well that really brought out the purple highlights.
