they won't even eat at 1st instar either.

I always heard this, too, but now I'm beginning to wonder! While I was incubating my G. pulchra eggsac, I would often see a few who appeared to be eating something--some of the material that was in the eggsac? And didn't Martin post some pictures about post-embryos eating a while back? I wish I could remember the thread, but perhaps someone else remembers.

In any event, congratulations, Big Dragonfly!

Jon,
They look excellent. Here's a rundown of how my experience with species went and how it is still going:
Pulled the eggsac at 26 days and found post embryos. Five days later, they all molted (1st instar!). Now I wait. It's been 57 days this day and they're not even dark yet. Slow cookin'!
But the nymphs are active. Some have large abdomens and some do not. I haven't found any infertile eggs or busted babies, so they're probably cleaning them up.
Joy,
Congrats on the blackies! They're a favorite of mine. Keep me in mind for a couple, if you're selling :)

Well after watching Momma T searching continuously for over a day now for her eggsac, I had to bribe her with a dozen or so crickets. She seemed pretty irritated by them for a little bit and even tried hairing them. But now she seems pretty content munching them. Hopefully after she is finished, she won't go back to searching for the sac.

yer not dense. looked like you got overlooked. some people call 'em a Brazilian giant white knee, or a Brazilian white-banded, or some combo of the names. you'll be okay with that, usually. there's probably a couple folks who know the official names. Acanthoscurria geniculata

Well, I'm still learning.

After looking at the thread about the L. cristata eggsacs, I learned that you are supposed to empty the eggsac into the rearing container. Not just put the eggsac in there. So I went ahead and did this. Here's a pic to get a better idea about how many eggs there are. Some of them are duds.
