Well, I pulled my A. genic's eggsac today and put it in a rearing container that John Larizzio gave me instructions on how to make. Let me tell you, momma spider is pissed!!! I gave her a fake eggsac to help her out, but she didn't buy into it. Now she is searching all over for it.

Anyways, I took a peek inside the eggsac and this is what I saw:

Even at this stage, you can see they have tremendous appetites:

Just in case anybody is wandering:

1 - I read in Tarantula Keeper's Guide that it is ok to open the eggsac and then sew it back shut.

2 - That is just a picture of a sandwhich!

You should really grow them out a bit before eating them.;P

They are not at the stage where they eat yet. How many do you think you have?

My B. albopilosum searched every inch her cage for about 8 straight hours before she settled down after I took her sac from her. What is the common name of that species?

Jon,
Whoopee! Looks like we hit the jackpot. Congratulations, for a first time T breeder, you're doing something right. I'm going to write up a review on you for the breeding forum so that other people will see that you have a good track record on breeding loans. That's the least that I can do for you, although most people have probably been following your pictures/threads so anything I write will be redundant.

How many are in the clutch? It looks like an awful lot. I don't know what I'm going to do with them. I'm not too keen on letting them cannibalize but I may not have any choice.

Joy uses a "surrogate" sac.... I'm not sure what she made it out of, but I'm going to get some cotton balls and gauze and make one for my g. rosea when I take her sac out. I don't want to stress her!

Karen: go to Smart & Final or Costco or Sam's Club, whatever, and get lots and lots of little plastic salsa cups. They make great homes for newborns! 250 of them with lids cost me about $2.50.

And finally, MY genic REFUSES to eat her vegetables.... how'd you do that?

you are going to have to give 'em a lot of room, hiding places and food if you don't want them chowing on each other

I have absolutely no idea on how many eggs there are -- just a lot!

At this point, I think that there will another 20+ days before they are real spiders.

I'm way impressed!
To get an eggsac out of an A. geniculata is a feat!
Congratulations! I hope there are several hundred of them!
Take care,
Ralph
