Looking for literature on species differential's within the Pterinochilus genus. Is there any available to the hobbyist? I'm trying to figure out if my new bug is a P. murinus NCF or a P. lugardi.
Thanks, Bob

Hi,

just send a picture and i'll be able to tell. But to answer your question, heres some difference.

Pterinochilus murinus :

- Posses spike on the maxillae

- carapace is'nt as curved as Pterinochilus lugardi
The ''eye's'' and line on the abdomen are smaller then Pterinochilus lugardi

- Curved spermathacae

Pterinochilus lugardi:

- Big ''eye's'' on the abdomen are bigger, and some other difference about marking on abdomen between the carapace and ''eye's'', that I cannot explain due to my awesome english

- Terminal lobe on the spermathacae

The female carapace is'nt as marked as the Pterinochilus murinus

- To compare to the Pterinochilus murinus

Thanks Cedric, I was reminded about another site, and believe I have a P. murinus TCF. Tan with light green coloring, black sternum and trying to look for spike type setae on the maxillae, but of course, it doesn't want to be that cooperative.

Hi,

you will need a very very good macro shot, or even better a microscope to find the Spike on the maxillae, and this, you will have better chance on an exuvium of course.

Here is the best shot I could get at
the moment.
Well I am computer illiterate. I can't figure out how to get the picture to show up. I'll keep trying.

Quick update. I was on another site and Timo said from the pic I put up that it is P. lugardi. Not sure why I can't post the pic here.
