Hello guys I got a fort hall baboon about a week ago and she seemed fine. But today looking at her she isn't look so good she has got her self crammed up in a corner of her terrarium just behind her rock hide. I have gently brushed her with my soft bristle brush to try and get her out of the corner and she just lifts one leg at me.At first touch with the brush I got a very fast twitch like I startled her which I am sure I did. There is about 2.5 inches of substrate with a rock hide on top she has started to web and burrow in the rock hide. Is this the norm for these guys or do I have a sick baboon?

How big is it?
These guys are burrowers, and it sounds like she doesn't have enough substrate to create a burrow.

I hope you have a relatively dry substrate... My female did good on 2 inches of substrate. She improvised.

Yeah her substrate is dry it was in the tank about 3 weeks before I got her. Here are a couple of pics sorry for the poor quality pics it is are old point and shoot. Looking at her hide it is webbed all nice and cozy in there I just think it is odd that she is jamming her self into the corner.

Looks alright to me, however this is a burrowing species and I would add another 2 to 3 inches of substrate. When I first got mine she burrowed fairly deep, and then I rehoused her later, and she hasn't burrowed, but has webbed her hide quite a bit. I have a bowl shaped dish in there and one day when I saw her she wedged herself between the bowl and the glass. She was there for a few days and then came out. Just a T being weird.

eco fiber & Perlite .. or vermiculite 60/40 mix or 70/30 if perlite mix is great for burrowers..
Perlite is quite ugly though sometimes.. Vermiclite looks cooler

Looks fine my friend my O.B.T. spends most of its time squished up between the glass and bark. I was the same worrying about her but shes molted since and eating well so its just what they do.

From what I understand temperaments often change from molt to molt.

Well just wanted an give an update she has moved into her hide and has not moved lol. I am thinking she may be in premolt she has not even tried to eat anything she even let a cricket jump on her and did nothing about it:eek:. So I took the little pest back out and let him reach his fate from my very hungry G. rosea lol.

So it looks like she is completely webbed her self into the rock hide with no way out. Any one have any ideas ?

Knee jerk reaction would be it's in premolt, but mine has done that consistently and simply busts out and grabs prey as it walks past a seemingly closed entrance.
Here's a vid of it.

Rest assured, she can get out if she wants.

I would say wait.
Yeah I think at this point I am going to to just have to wait and see what happens. I put a cricket in there yesterday and she is not at all interested in it. I am thinking at the end of the day if it is still in there i'll take it out and see what happens. Just don't know if see is unhappy or in premolt I have not had the pleasure of having a T molt yet.
