Irminia's are skittish and fast but I've never had one show me a defensive display and I have 5 adults and a crapload of babies. They tend to stay in their tube webs and will roam around or perch in a visible spot at night once acclimated. I can stick my hand in their cages anytime without elliciting a response unless you mess with the tube web, then they just run like mad...and are not limited to the confines of the cage. They are very fast and capable of jumping when they want to.

Overall it's a great spider to have, they are super aggressive feeders and will tackle prey larger than themselves without a second thought. My slings started on 1/4 in crickets.

One of my favorite all time species for sure....
Good luck and don't hesitate to get one. If you start with a sling it will be very easy compared to some of the species you already have.

They are Super fast. In my opinion Pokies cant touch Irminia. My Adult females are quick to Throw threat**** displays, but at the same time they are also on the shy side. Like any tarantula it needs to be given proper respect. I suggest using extreme caution if this is your first Suntiger.

Pokies in my opinion are cowards. The suntigers have no problem standing their ground.

Awesome spider though. One of my Favs

I want one too. Psalmo's are such an awesome looking genus. And my little 2cm cambridgei slings are the only Ts I have that will chase water droplets around their vial :D

I bought a suntiger and a trinadad chevron at the sametime, both were fully grown(around 7"). The suntiger was easily the most aggressive spider I have ever owned and very very fast (close to H mac speeds). Every time I opened ner cage she would give me a defenssive display, and was not afraid to move forward on me. I've handled all my T except that one... seriously. I guess I never really had the chance b/c she was definitely gonna bite once on me, or I would have.

I just recently received 6 from Urbanjungle, and I hope at least one of them is that aggresive and at least one to be handlable. Every spider has a different temperment... Danny's seem much less defensive than the one I once owned.

Let's basically say that you have not experience an aggressive/defensive T untill you have owned a Psalmopoeus irminia. The other species within the genus aren't as bad as the irminia, but compared to the irminia, my Pterinochilus murinus don't come close. My Haplopelma lividum is a total sweetheart, so I can't really compare her as she is probably abnorm for that specie group. I've never come across a species that was so fang happy? Haha! I mean, they are quick to bite and will...I've never been bitten, but that's not so say they haven't tried. When transferring spiders, the irminia is the only that has ever attacked my paintbrush and left it wet with venom! They will bite first and ask questions later...that is, if they even care to ask. It is likely that they will bite first...and then bite again later! I think that is one of their joys in life...biting things.

My irminia girl would much prefer to hide while I am doing tank duty, than to try anything else. I have never had a threat display from her. She will get adventurous on feeding day, and come all the way out of her hide, but is very quick to duck back in if she feels at all uncertain about things. She's currently about 3-3.25".

I've currently got a 1" sling, and it's already tagged me once (more my fault than anything)........ It is extremely fast however, and it's favorite trick is to run up the side of it's deli cup in a sort of upwards spiraling motion and then jump on to my hand... it's happend three or four times now.... the last time it did this is when I got tagged..... They love to run and are extremely fast.... I'm not exactly sure how mine is on actual temperment yet, as that it can be hard to gauge with slings... but I've heard some horror stories about extremely pissy Irminias..... (I believe one person described a P. Irminia that they dealt with as "the devil incarnate") As a species, they're definately on the cranky side of things, and they are incredibly fast, my sling is already as fast as my 7 1/2-8" female P. Regalis..... they're absolute lightning, which is the bigger concern.... the bite isn't so bad, even if they're prone to it, it's more that you've got to try not to lose it if it decides to go for a little run around your room/arm/body/face.... etc.

Now this is my species. I can talk about this one all day-

I really don't find them as 'defensive' as most people make them out to be. I've never seen one actively running far from its tube-web to attack a hand in the cage. You'll rarely see them out of their web, and if you see them, they'll quickly see you, and duck back into their web. As long as you don't enter 'their space', they'll retreat.

Its a different story if however you actually try to get them out. They are a particularly difficult T to handle IMO, because getting your hand near enough without them bolting or throwing a serious threat-pose is a feat all to itself. You are laying it all down on the line attempting to handle them, but its fun.:p

They're a beautiful species, get a good size, and do show some attitude, so they're my absolute favorite. Get a young one, and raise it up, so it'll grow with your ability to care for it.

check it out

If you want to see the speed these T's possess, check out some of the vids on YouTube. Amazing. I too find them more apt to retreat to a tube web than to get defensive. Easily one of the most beautiful and amazing T's in the hobby. Love 'em.
