I used them in small containers with mantid nymphs and never had any problems with them. Also in water with giant water bug nymphs. If it was going to cause a problem, I think that would be a perfect situation to do it in.

You never had them mold or anything?

Are basswood and birch okay for Ts? I guess I could do a search or something huh? lol

Thanks for all the input

They should be. The only woods you have to worry about are the very aromatic ones. There is some debate about that as well, but to be safe stay away from aromatic woods.

Okay yall...

They are made of Spruce wood, and are all natural. Is that okay?

I don't know if mold would be an issue in a dry setup.

I wonder if they glaze them with a food grade wax to keep them from becoming water logged.

I have used the segmented craft type sticks. I can break them into sizes appropriate for the vial and use them for arboreal species. The wood DOES eventually mold, but by that time the spider is usually ready for a larger home. If not, I just pull out the molded piece and insert a new one. I've been using them for over a year without a problem. Di

Nearly all the Popsicle sticks are made in China as are toothpicks and tongue depressors, and they are all made out of Birch wood... white Birch to be exact. China has lots of Birch trees. It will not harm your T but it can become moldy.

It must be the only company in the US making ice cream sticks at all, let alone with Spruce wood. If you say they're aromatic and concerned for the safety of your T, just pitch them and go to the craft store and get a bag made in China. You'll be good to go.

There is some evidence to suggest that aromatic woods (like spruce) could be harmful to T's long term health.

Tarantulas have been known to construct homes from Popsicle sticks in the wild with no ill effects...

I have a small piece in my P. pederseni enclosure and I am keeping a close eye on him.. I'll remove it once I figure out something to do in his enclosure.

I got other things to use in the other enclosures, so my son will be pleased to receive 299 1/2 craft sticks LOL
