Ok, I have a 5 inch regalis that I was relatively certain was female.
I pulled the recent molt out today, and now I'm not sure.
Here is a ventral shot; taken two or three molts prior to this one.

Here is a shot of the molt today.

I checked the skin under a magnifying glass, and I couldn't really see anything resembling spermatheca. Does anyone else? Is this picture good enough?

Now that I'm looking at a larger picture, I may see a little something.

That could be flattened down in you photo. Do you have a dorsal shot of this one? At 5" it should be obviously male or female.

I found that pic earlier in a search, it just reaffirmed my doubts .
I'll try to catch it out.

Ventrally it is looking like a male to me. Look forward to that second picture of the dorsal side.

I would think you couldnt miss the spermatheca in the molt at that size.

Yeah, the ventral is a hard shot for me.

^ That is why I was leaning more towards male. I didn't think that they were that different until the ultimate molt.
But, I wasn't sure. I want to try and get better at this.

Your pokie is way more colorful. IMO P. regalis are kinda tricky because they only have a faint purple. Im still learning how to sex pokies dorsaly. It can be a real head ache. :wall:

Yes my male has no purple and has a faded or "gray tint" all over.

The only real difference I see is color contrast, and mine is freshly molted. Is there something subtle I am missing?

Maybe not precisely color, but the sharpness; the contrast in general if you know what I mean. It's hard to explain.

I see the black is darker.. But i really only see a lack of contrast. its like a faded grey compared to a dark black. Is there a pattern difference im missing?
