Not just anaphylaxis. Antivenins throw off the entire immune system. As I understand it, Latro AV is a one shot deal. Can never be administered a second time. Or take my romp with crotalid AV. I was warned there would probably be severe side effects. Where bee stings had been trivial to me, a few months after the AV I got stung and plastered to a wall. Acute random muscle cramping for a week. The next time I got a bee sting I developed a heart arrhythmia. I still throw PVCs. Then many years down the road here I had a meal that involved weaver ant eggs. A few minutes later, malaise, severe nausea, muscle tremors and S.O.B.Antivenin would only be used in very severe cases, and would be administered only during acute symptoms, not after things have calmed down. Most of the time Latrodectus bites are managed with meds to control pain and blood pressure along with supportive hospital care. The antivenin has a risk of severe allergic reaction, so it is only used in very serious cases.
