lol, touche. Thanks for the advice! I've been doing a ton of research and don't see that changing, so much to know. I've spent a few thousand trying to set up a proper room first, but ya, they're quick! I'm definitely way over my head, but I do love the little scamps!

I'm also brand new to the T hobby, though I grew up on a farm and around lots of critters, just got 3 P. Metallicas in the mail. Can I ask how this has been working out so far?
Hey so over a year since this reply but honestly, I have had no issues other than a current fasting period that I'm troubleshooting. They grow fast and she looks great, has been an awesome experience and I absolutely adore her. That being said, I respect the hell out of her, and I take a lot of precautions. I've learned that once they startle there's really not much you can do but hope they don't teleport onto you. Moving SLOWLY and CAREFULLY during rehousing or feeding is the best advice I can give. I haven't really had any close calls at all, and I am lucky to have an individual who is pretty chill (for a pokie). I've seen how fast she can scramble but she's never reared or gotten defensive (except to one cricket that she decided to beef with instead of eating), in fact when she doesn't like me sticking tongs in her enclosure to feed or get her water dish to clean, she literally backs away slowly. I've rehoused her three times, and it has been a breeze, I usually have to have a beer beforehand to calm my nerves (probably frowned upon but whatever, if I'm calm, she's calm). While they are unpredictable to a degree, I have found that they are creatures of instinct, and moreover I have learned my gal's specific tendencies, for example when she first realizes there's something making her upset, she'll like straighten her legs and sorta splay them, when I see that I back off. How's your experience been? Do you feel like yours have different personalities, idk if i sound crazy.

HAHA I lost my password. Me and my baby have been growing up together and I love her so much. When given respect and space my p met has proven to be pretty chill. I love her dearly and don't worry I have good health insurance (just incase hahaha).

Her name is Durga (Hindu Goddess with 8 arms) I assume she is Hindu since she's from India but I never could get an answer out of her when I asked.

I recently got a p. metallica sling and decided to take to the community for advice. I don't have a lot of experience with tarantulas (my first T was a Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens a few years ago, but I only had her for a couple months before she had to be rehomed). I have done extensive research on poecilotheria care and everything is going well so far, the sling has taken food every 5 days and has grown (though I have not found a molt). I am well aware of the risks involving behavior and venom potency with this species. I don't really agree with the concept of "beginner" species, I think specific knowledge and precautions are more important, which is why I'm here! If there are any experience keepers, I would very much appreciate any advice! I want to expand my knowledge further to continue raising this sling!
Don't get bit
Best advice I can give you.

Don't be another new keeper that winds up in the ER.

The Federal and some state governments plus the public already have a negative view on the T keeping community.
