They will make hides even without molting, but as they get bigger, and make larger webs with more ease, the hammocks are safer to molt in.

I'm sure you've seen the slingfluff webbing.. My slings dont seem to really build anything special, they just chuck some fluff around.. As they get bigger, their webbing will be more "stable". I hope you understand what I mean here =p

I think I know what you are talking about. I looked a bit closer at my pink toe and there is some fluffy barely visible stuff all over the back of the tank. But she has her favorite corner where she kind of just chills at most of the day and that is where the major portion of her webbing is. Like I said, she is always up to something. Rozilla has a web next to her water dish. I didn't notice it until I was cleaning up some cricket parts, but I thought that was cool.
