I rehoused my trap door today and took the opportunity to take this picture because this is probably the last time I’m going to see it once it gets settled in from what I read about trap doors.

I bought it as a black trap door spider or "stasimopus gargyolla" (that’s their exact spelling of it) but that name just doesn’t work. Another post informed me they are both genus names.

More important than ID though…
I bought this spider because the pet store said all trap doors make webs with "spokes" like this one, which is what I bought it for...

They could have said that just for the sale but can I expect to see the "spokes" like in the picture or is that only the liphistius that does that??

That is presumably the same species as this.

They are a species of trapdoor baboon spider, probably a Cyphonisia sp. These do not make the spokes like the Liphistius do, sorry to tell you.

Meh, whatever it still cool as hell & I'm seriously glad I got it. I still can't get over how he'll slam his little door in my face every time I try to get a picture of it.

As for that link you posted, it looks like we have a match.
Now I never did learn what sp. means. When you say Cyphonisia sp.
my best guess is that means its from the Cyphonisia genus but we aren't sure exactly what the species is. Am I right with that?

HAHA I was so concerned about tripwire webbing I almost forgot to get the ever classic male or female picture. Any ideas??

Correct. The best ID I have gotten was Cyphonisia cf. obesa(color form). As for the sex, yours is a mature female. The males and juvies have very different coloring.

I have mine on slightly damp sand/peat mix. I feed whenever, usually once every week or two.

I flood the bottom of the cage every other week via a straw on the side.

Looks like the Barychelidae sp. Tanzania Silver I have, very nice and defensive species.
