Hey guys,

right now I can get my hands on:

-Mexican blood leg
-Avicularia sp. (peru purple)
-Avicularia versicolor (martinique)
-Chaco gold stripe
-Brazilian Black

Which one should I buy? Which one is the rarest? Can anyone rate the highest to lowest for rareness?

Thank you

The Aphonopelma bicoloratum is the only one there that isn't readily available in the hobby at any given time, so I'd have to go with it. That's always what I'd personally pick. If your source has more of them, I'd really like to get their contact info.

Pulchra use to be harder to find a couple years ago, but it seems like everyone has one now. Avics are plentiful, as are G. pulchripes.

This is why we don't use common names. :banghead:

Mexican blood leg is the common name for Aphonopelma bicoloratum.
Mexican FIRE leg is the common name for Brachypelma boehmei.

Don't buy from people who don't use scientific names. I may get some flack for that, but a tarantula dealer (big time or small) should know what they are selling by the latin name.

For some reason his mexican blood leg is called a branchypelma boehmei, is there a difference??
Who the heck is selling Mexican Blood Leg as B. boehmei or vice versa? Do you know the size of the spider? If it already has color you should ask them to send you a photo, post here on AB and we can help you determine wether is boehmei or bicoloratum.

It's okay to use common name as long as the scientific name follows with the exact species. But just using the common name alone you could be referring with many different species.

And to top it off I'm not sure I would even try to purchase any of the other spiders until I saw photos of them. Because of the fact of the one mixed up this seller could have other mixed up species as well.
So definitely ask for photos for you to be certain of what you intend to purchase is the right genus/species you are intending of purchasing.

This guy probably made a simple mistake, he is a very reputable dealer. I have already got a curly and a gbb from him. I am just clearing it up with him and ill get back to you guys. Besides the fact though, the blood leg would be the rarest? If it turns out to be a fire leg what second choice is the rarest

I don't think many of us would consider either of those "rare." What does it matter if it's rare or not? Are you thinking you'll make bank through breeding? Cause if so, that's not how it works. If it's some sort of status symbol... well we don't seem to really care too much about that in the hobby. Having something new or rare is cool and all, but really means zilch in the grand scheme of things.

Gawd, this is case in point as to why we DESPISE common names!

No, its not, boehmei is referred to as the fire leg, blood leg is A. bicoloratum.....red-leg is emelia....when it comes to red-legged/kneed t's, you absolutely MUST use the scientific name...heck, we'd prefer it if you just always used latin.

Your "reputable" seller, just got a whole lot less reputable IMO.

Then he isn't that reputable in my opinion. Especially with making THAT type of error you mentioned earlier.

None of those species are rare, and none of them are going to make you rich if you sell it or breed it.

Just pick what you like, it's not rocket science haha.

im not breeding or doing it for resale... I just want to know which one of these species is harder to get out of all of them. I guess the blood leg is off the list since it turn out to be a boehmei. I have like 100 species to choose from an i just narrowed those down to the ones i chose. I am really going based more on handling.

Nobody's jumping on you. Just trying to keep you as informed as possible. You didn't label it, you're just the messenger here. Had you known the scientific names, you would have questioned the spiders identity without even thinking. It pays to know what name to look for, and if you don't know or insist on latin names, it can lead to uncertainties.:depressed:

"Jesus you guys look at you jump on me... like flamers. im not breeding or doing it for resale. I just want to know which one of these species is harder to get out of all of them. His name is Jose (Exoskeleton Invertebrates) not Jesus wrong hispanic name, but close enough. Perhaps its one of your hybrid Bicolormei Bandito (Jose Berrios Nickname that and others I can't list as the post would be removed :mooning:)? Also what is the definition of a flamer?

Those where my questions, now for yours:

Those specimens are all not rare, but have some fun and don't worry about all the comments you find silly lol. No need to talk about closing accounts and what not. See this post for, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" http://arachnoboards.com/threads/pachistopelma-bromelicola.279802/page-2#post-2425983. So you need to ultimately decide whats best for you. And see this post for comments on handeling http://arachnoboards.com/threads/grammostola-pulchra-behavior.279780/page-3#post-2425972. In fact the entire thread full of opinions might be good for you to read lol.

So
-Boehmei: Beautiful can kicks hairs
-Avicularia sp. peru purple : Beautiful can be jumpy
-Avicularia versicolor: Beautiful can be jumpy
-Chaco: Beautiful can kick hairs, but less likely then the Brachy
-Brazilian Black: Beautiful can kick hairs, but less likely then the Brachy and the rarer of all you have listed, but still around :couchpotato:

I am really going based more on handling.

This makes it easier to choose. G. pulchra (b. black) or G. pulchripes (chaco).

Pulchripes gets bigger, into the 7" range. Both are big eaters and slow growers, pulchra grows slower though. Both are great species to own.

Versicolor. Very active, awesome color. Easy to handle if your good with doing that. Downside is cleaning their enclosures sucks... As with all arboreals.. Cuzz of the "hey I'm gunna shit all over the walls" fun.

I love my versicolor, and have enjoyed Avics the most in general

If we must stick to the list, me personally either B. Bicoloratum or G. Pulchra.

However, I would consider this:

I'm here to point you in the right direction for your inquiry. All of this spiders you listed are hardy. The only one I would consider a less of availability for you to acquire is the Aphonopelma bicoloratum. Other than that any of those species will do just fine for you. Good luck with your future spiders you decide to purchase.
