You could. Looks like pine, and pine beetles to me, they are already no danger to the T., maybe to the furniture or the environment. The problem is it leaves all the dead insects in holes in the wood to rot away, and guess what's coming for them? mites. I'd toss it afterwards either way. I meant dunk it and toss it.What about baking it? Like 200 for 20 min or longer if you are really worried. Then you wouldn't have to worry about toxic wood. It shouldn't be treated with anything if it's for pets.
