Thanks yall :(

So since any sort of light/sound/movement seemed to cause the legs to spasm, I put his little cube into a dark box and covered it for the night.

This morning when I picked up the cube, he is laying perfectly normal, with one "foot" up on the side of the cube.

He did not move at all when I picked him up, whereas last night it would cause a spasm. Is it possible he died without being in a death curl? I have seen some people post about their Ts doing that :(

I will go back and check on him again in a little bit to see if he's moved at all.

My gut feeling is that it is some sort of poisoning... but I didn't do ANYTHING differently with him than I did with any of the other Ts, and no one else is even acting the slightest bit out of the norm.

It is possible for a T to die and not be in a death curl. Our A. avic sling died a couple of weeks ago, not in a death curl, and I didn't even notice it was dead until I saw that it was moldy...I just thought it was chilling on it's tube web. I really hope your regalis pulls through for you.

He's gone :(

I went to check on him again, and there was NO change in position... so I opened the cube and manipulated him with tweezers... nothing. Just stuck in that position.

Damn it :(

RIP Tar :'(

I'm sorry to hear that Teal. I hope your friend's regalis doesn't have the same thing happen. It'll be interesting to know how that one fares in light of what has happened to yours.

Thanks yall :(

I definitely hope nothing happens to Jake's regalis.. it wouldn't do for us to lose both :(

I am worried about my pederseni now, though... he is in the exact same set up as the regalis. I am wondering if its a flaw in the design of the enclosure or something, paired with another issue.. so I'll probably see about moving him.

So sorry for your loss Teal. Exact same thing happened to a 2 1/2 in. Avicularia Huriana I had, tried everything including an ICU. Really felt pretty helpless. The result, unfortunately was the same. Up to that point, the T seemed to have no problems.

Thank you :(

Sorry to hear you lost a huriana.. that's a gorgeous T, and I haven't seen many around :(

My regalis seemed "fine" except being a COMPLETE spaz... though it makes me wonder if maybe the "spazzing" was DKS because it was like he was trying to get somewhere so quickly his legs couldn't keep up or something..

*sigh*

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that, that's crappy.

You tried everything you could though, he had a good owner. Hopefully none of your other T's are going to be affected. Sorry again, Teal.

Thanks Cass :( I really appreciate the help you offered

So far, everyone else is doing just fine... My pederseni hunted down the cricket I put into his enclosure earlier, so I am taking that as a good sign. Hopefully no one else starts acting weird :(

My condolences.....

Tar looks alot like my little one, so my heart greatly sank when I saw your video, and then compared it to Ryan's. Watching your T go through that has got to be one of the most horrible experiences of this hobby. Personally, I would prefer to take a serious hit off of one of my baboons than to watch one of them go through that.

I am so sorry for your loss. :(

Thank you :( I just wish I knew what caused it, ya know?

That is definitely the hardest part of this hobby.. it's not like dogs or horses, where you can call a vet :(

Teal, I am so sorry that you had to watch your little one through that. :( I hope it never happens again!

I know you're upset from this, but please don't take offense at my next question. If you still have the T, have you considered doing a minor necropsy on it? At the very least, you might be able to find or rule out parasites (providing you have a strong magnifying glass or a microscope). Or you may see something else that just doesn't look right and be able to bring a sample to a college biology or zoology department where they could test for fungus or infection?

Thanks guys :(

Julia.. I'm definitely not offended at all, and I was thinking to myself earlier that I wish I had the equipment and knowledge to do something like that :( I don't even have a basic magnifying glass.. and if I did, I don't know what to look for :( But I thank you for the suggestion.. hearing it from someone else - and knowing it's not just me that cares that much - is comforting.

Have any of you seen an insect that has been poisoned with insecticide? That is what this reminds me of =/

I have seen plenty of crickets at work that have been poisoned. They seem to spread out all their limbs and appendages and twitch.

Sorry to hear about your situation teal.

Thanks..

That's what I was thinking too... poison.

But I did not do anything differently with Tar than I did with any of my other Ts...

OH MY GOSH.

That is so sad! I started crying halfway through Talken's video.

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I'm so sorry for you guys. But what the HECK was wrong with the tarantulas? I saw the DKS videos but this looks like the opposite.

I watched maybe 10 seconds of the video and I had to turn it off. Honestly, one of the worst things I've ever seen.

I have no idea what could have caused this. Teal, I know you have dogs, are they on a topical flea/heartworm/ringworm treatment? I've heard that could be a potential cause.
