try it if you don't believe me cold blood made a very convincing argument about it. if you don't know how micro wave work they depend on water to work. the plate in their doesn't get heated by the microwaves from the magnetron but the heat from the water heats the surrounding area including the food and plate. oven is the best method.

How in heavens are you screwed? Take the tarantula out, put it in a temporary holding cup. Empty out the container. Dry the substrate in oven (I've heard of people microwaving it too). Re-assemble enclosure. Ta-daaaaaa

dude i know. its just an expression

OP stands for Ornery Peon.(being as how the question was mine )
and I don't think thats how you use that expression, something like well its all in the bucket now is more appropriate.

Sterilizing substrate means the first things to colonize it will have it all to themselves, mold spores are everywhere and are usually the first thing to colonize....mold in its self isnt generally harmful, but you still want to avoid big explosions of the stuff.

Damp sub isnt a huge deal as long as the enclosure is well ventilated.

My reaction was more that the chances of the mold being harmful are extremely miniscule and can be picked out if you don’t like it. If OP has no other option then he shouldn’t be told “no microwave".

don't microwave it OP you'll get mold oven drying is a fine method used world wide.

yeah but then whats the point if all it will do is cause mold explosions? also just letting it dry would be fine so they have more options than microwave. its not really a big deal I just don't recommend it mold can make beginners nervous.

they do but they work as a better method of drying, you can also just leave it in the sun if you got sun we don't over here in seattle. OP had moist sub not mite infested sub so I recommended oven method over microwave as a method of drying.

Tried baking coco fibre to dry it out once and ended up with thick blue mould down every side of my B. emilia enclosure within days.

Never again.

I just don't see the point in protecting them from the truth. If we educate them, then it won't make them nervous. If we tell them to avoid it, then they get nervous when they eventually get it.

That sounds a little intense, but I'll take your word on it. I've just yet to see it I guess.

Yes, it can take them a few weeks to get settled.

Nobody knows from the pic you posted in this thread. You need to post a ventral shot.

Some Avics take endlessly before they start webbing. They should get serious about it shortly before they molt, though.
