I just ordered a stirmi and looking for a sling to add some spice. Should I go for cancerides or auratus? And what are their average sizes? I was informed that auratus are smaller
P. atrichomatus is the largest, not sure which one is the runner up, heard that sp. gold carapace isI wanted something different so i got auratus and sp south hispaniola. I think cancerides is the biggest of all phormics but not sure
So cancerides isn’t the biggest of their genus? Anyone have atrichomatus adult pic?P. atrichomatus is the largest, not sure which one is the runner up, heard that sp. gold carapace is
From what I've read, P. auratus are a bit more calm and less defensive than P. cancerides, but I only have my sub-adult female P. auratus for reference. She is an amazing eater, and I have no doubt she'd eat everything that all my other tarantulas refused if I let her. No messing about when something drops onto the substrate with that lass -- she's a pretty active hunter once she thinks something is nearby, and rarely sits and waits for things to come to her.Oh and do P.auratus behave like cancerides too? Do they also have that great feeding response? And how big do they get?
According to whom?P. atrichomatus is the largest, not sure which one is the runner up, heard that sp. gold carapace is
I dont have the atrichomatus, but my AF cancerides is over 8".So cancerides isn’t the biggest of their genus? Anyone have atrichomatus adult pic?
Hmm why do some cancerides (female) appear purple ish and others look more black?According to whom?

Whoops re-read a paper and it had said cancerides tend to be more ‘robust’ and larger. Shouldn’t go off of memory anymore..According to whom?

Well my 2 auratus slings tear up crickets like nothing I have ever owned. Once the cricket hits the substrate, it's on like donkey kong. I don't know how big they get. I am guessing around 6 inches honestly. Supposedly Cuban phormics are the relative dwarfs of the genus. In my opinion, they might be the best looking.Oh and do P.auratus behave like cancerides too? All good.Whoops re-read a paper and it had said cancerides tend to be more ‘robust’ and larger. Shouldn’t go off of memory anymore..
They go through some interesting color changes as they grow, my female went from brown to black on her last molt.Hmm why do some cancerides (female) appear purple ish and others look more black?
That’s cool! Just asked my friend who keeps them and he said that every time they molt it’s like you have a completely different spider lol! They go through some interesting color changes as they grow, my female went from brown to black on her last molt.
Can I have the link to that paper? I want to read it tooWhoops re-read a paper and it had said cancerides tend to be more ‘robust’ and larger. Shouldn’t go off of memory anymore..
Yeah pretty much, one of the many pros of keeping Phormictopus. That’s cool! Just asked my friend who keeps them and he said that every time they molt it’s like you have a completely different spider lol!
I have two that are a little less than 3 inches DLS, and you can already see it on both.what size was it when it started to gain the ‘gold sheen’?
That's fine, but if you're not sure what you have, why are you disagreeing with my comment? I know that I have two P. auratus, and they both show some gold on the carapace already.Just skeptical that what i purchased is auratus. Didnt know if others that commented on this thread had auratus that looked like this
Sorry, I wasn't dissagreeing with you. I wasn't responding to anything you said. I previously said that I did not think that my t was an auratus and someone asked if i could post a pic on this thread. I should have been more specificThat's fine, but if you're not sure what you have, why are you disagreeing with my comment? You do know you can undo ratings, rightSorry, I wasn't dissagreeing with you.
