I'm pretty sure one is as the title says. The other one, I'm wondering if it's a juvinile? Can anyone tell me what to look for in a female? My daughter seems to be finding these everywhere at her school. I'd like to get a female and try to breed them. Here are a couple of pictures.

what you have there looks to be a pair...the males have a lot more white than the females and boxing gloves

The first one is definitely a male. Does it have blue chelicerae? If so you're pretty lucky. The second one looks to be a female whether or not its mature it I don't really know. Put them together and see what happens. If your daughter keeps finding them then you have nothing to worry about. ;)

many audax have orange spots until they mature, when they turn to white. some audax, however, may retain the orange spots into maturity. you'll have to compare size for yourself, or get a size reference in the pics, to tell if it is mature or not. looks like a juvie to me though personally.

these little guys are awesome.

The female I have kept her orange spots. I've noticed most the mature females around here (central NY) have orange spots. The guys are almost always white.

Yea pretty sure that's an immature female in the second pic. Some audax never lose their orange, but generally orange is immaturity. She's supposed to be bigger than the male.

Definitely P audax. They're pretty cool, aren' they? I've heard their bite is kind of painful so your daughter should excercise care catching them. They're not dangerous though, of course.

def not dangerous, but it would prob take quite a bit to bite. i've never had one try (really hard to even get somewhat of a threat pose going!). they just jump/run.

I sure hope so, when I came home she had them both in the same enclosure and he didn't hurt the other one, just went after the pinhead. They were on top of each other when I saw them and no fighting. I may put them back together, you would think that if they were 2 males, they would immediately go at it

I'm going to have to agree with you. I measured them and they are both hitting just a hair over 1cm and the orange abdomen is bigger than the male's. Ok, here's another question now what? LOL

Could watch them to see if they do mate. You'll be able to tell the males have a dance but I'll agree with previous posts the female doesn't look mature yet. Separate them maybe? Could always go out looking for a mature female and introduce the guy to her. A lot of people keep em here I'm sure someone will chime in.

Be careful, because I housed some Audax pairs together in a ten gallon planted tank to see if I could get them to mate. The larger males ate the females!! Just FYI.

Ok, came in this morning and they are in the same web together. She isn't dead, and the male just ate a cricket. Aww, they bought a house already:D

Major Question

Ok, the one female molted and her molt turned out horrible on the abdomen. I let her go and put the male in with the other female. They now have a web they share, just like the first one. Can anyone tell me what this means?

i'm sure if he found a mature female by now it'd be gravid.
