So I went to petco to get a couple of feeder insects for my pets and there were these feeder roaches and they looked extremely similar to hissing roaches and I asked the employee if they were he said ”no” and pointed to another tank and he said these are hissers for 10 bucks a piece well on the other deli cup it said “giant islander roach-gromphadorhina portentosa“ literally a Madagascan hissing roach for 5 bucks i was like “are you actually serious“ I decided not to tell the employee because I dont want them to raise the price on what the call “the island roach” and now I got a Madagascan hissing roach 50 percent off because of petcos stupidity

Sweet find! I had a similar snafu at Petco two days ago, but unfortunately with less pleasing results.
The folks over there had no idea how to manage their crickets or sell them, and I was in a dire need to get some. I waited 15 minutes for crickets, and by the time a person had scooped me a bag, I pointed they all were deceased.
"Oh, you want them alive?" spoke the startled employee.
No duh, Nostradamus.
It was another 15 minute wait for 'live' crickets, which made me feel as if I should have gotten a discount Hisser as a bonus.

For hybrid "portentosa", even $5 each is kind of a ripoff IMO... 😅 Now for pure stocks it'd be a bit more understandable, especially for slower growing/breeding species, but hybrid "portentosa" (which is all Petco sells) aren't worth all that much, more like $2-3 each IMO at most.

Wait you know it’s a hybrid. Do you know what species made this one. Maybe it just looks like a hybrid. Here is a more recent picture

Looks like a typical "portentosa", and most "portentosa" on the market are hybrids unless specifically stated otherwise (and no way is Petco ever buying from responsible breeders maintaining pure bred stock). Any number of species can be crossed with portentosa, the most common mixes are portentosa x G.oblongonota and portentosa x Princisia vanwaerebeki, however most crosses involving portentosa often revert to portentosa morphology and coloration (though coloration on hybridized stock tends to be duller and much more variable than on pure stocks).

Well I went today and they had them all with tiny babies stuffed and dead in all but 1. I grabbed the one with all the living babies. Now I’m late to work getting them housed n fed. But how can I tell the female from the male? One has bulges on his hood above his head. I just want to separate so I don’t end up with millions of babies😭 I’ll get better pics after work but here they were
