Pet shop fun

Went down to my local pet shop; the only good one I've ever seen, looking for bed-a-beast. I walked out with a 3 1/2" Chromatus, a 1 1/2" Boehmei, a large "breeder box" by exo-terra, and a brick of coco fiber for $85. Score! The Cromatus is meaner than my OBT, not as fast but threat display non-stop. I have been waiting to be a Nhandu for a while. Probably the only NW species I like. Anybody have any experience with N. Chromatus?

Wow, how cool is that?! The pet store, I mean. :D But your coup as well. Congrats!

While waiting for one of the myriads of chromatus owners to chime in, I'll just say that my little N. vulpinus sling (maybe ~1.5" now) is by far my most entertaining spider of all time. Really active, alert, quite into "terraforming," yet almost always in view and almost interactive-seeming. Also growing faster than my L. parahybana...So that's at least a plug for the genus.

I have a Juvie N. chromatus. In my experience with the nhandu it is probably one of my meanest ts. Its the only one i have that throws up an instant threat display at the slightest disturbance, doesnt even retreat to its hide.

I heard about there never ending feeding, so I through a roach in there. Pounce! They had 5 of them so, I nabbed a female:) She has not gone in her hide once that I have seen, she sits on top of it more than anything. It's funny she will walk around like shes a ten foot spider.

I think you're going to like this T a lot!

Hope you get some pics up sometime...:)

I can't read enough about this genus. Hope it's actually in the 3rd edition of the TKG.

That's an A.geniculata.
Gotta agree with Rick.
Here's my little geniculata:

Here's my N. chromatus:

White bands on the legs are similar, but easy to see the difference between them.
Genic's are awesome though! It will be larger when grown than a chromatus, (up to 8") and yes they do stay out in the open most times and are eating machines! You still got a good deal.

Yep they are right that's an Acanthoscurria not a Nhandu. Check out the carapaces and you'll see the difference  Either way both are awesome T's and both are beautifully colored nonetheless. Have fun!

Wow, those are close-looking! SNAFU, thanks SO much for posting comparison pics like that!!

Is there anything other than color about the cephalothorax that is different between these two? To me, the femora look like the biggest difference between them...

Euronymous, she's BEAUTIFUL!!!

Genic. I had one last year and she was one of those I never got the guts to try and handle. Threat poses here and there!

Between the two, my genic is pretty calm but the chromat is very jumpy and I don't trust her near enough to try and handle her. She's 5" and the genic is only about 3 3/4" but just started premolt. Those pics are from months ago and the chromatus was freshly molted. I'll probably have to move the geniculta to a larger kk after this molt, I hope!:D
Euronymous you'll have a blast watching your genic grow.Until premolt started with mine it has never turned down a meal.

I have no clue on the sex of the Boehmei. He/she is in premolt right now. When it molts I'll get out a microscope.

A. geniculata huh? Thanks for the ID. Do they usually calm down with age? Pretty skittish.
