So I found this parson spider in my house last night, and I kinda want to try to keep it for a while, but I can't find anything on habitat preferences, food preferences, life span, behaviors, etc. Does anyone know anything about parson spiders that would help me out?

Parson Spiders are related to the stealthy ground spiders. They like to hide in tight crevices until nightfall, when they actively search for prey, which includes mainly other spiders, but also any other medium sized insect it can overpower. I fed mine green blow flies, any fly really, even large horseflies! Haha, they really like other spiders so I keep a few around to hunt down cellar spiders around my widow terrariums. DO NOT FEED THEM CELLAR SPIDERS! It's not always successful as cellar spiders also eat other spiders regularly that try to hunt them. In an enclosed space, I doubt the parson spider would survive long before the cellar spider got to it first. Crickets with hind legs removed do nicely as well. Fattens em up real quick. Put a lot of hides and climbing surfaces in the terrarium and she'll live for a good 6 or 7 seasons if she's a Juvie. If she's already an adult or if she's not a she, she won't live very long, maybe 3 or 4 seasons max. They are relatively scared little spiders, so they tend to flee at the slightest breeze of a whisper. And boy, are they fast when they run. I would almost say they're faster than grass spiders. The venom is not all that dangerous, though some have been reported to have had adverse reactions to the bite, but it could have been just arachnophobic hype spread to kill more beneficial spider friends. In Any case, Good luck with your parson Spider, She might even lay a bunch of eggs for you if you treat her nice... ;)

Thank you so much! I fed her a few flies already, I had a wolf spider until about a week ago, so I've got some insects stored in the freezer. I know there's a lot of spiders around the house now, so hopefully I can catch some for her :) she seems pretty young, though I'm not really an expert on these kinds of spiders. It'll be a little difficult to make and transport her to a new habitat, she can climb anything, but hopefully I'll get it. Thanks again!

They have a hard time climbing smooth surfaces like glass and plastic. :)

I know they have a hard time climbing out of plastic because they always get trapped in my water cup until I put them back in my lab.

Ehh, why did you feed them cellar spiders instead ground dwelling ones in the first place?

Because the ground dwellers and more striking spiders are important to me, though, they eat those too. And I don't feed them, they have no cages. I have them roaming around the room.
