If I'm not badly mistaken, I think the antinous is the largest pampho.

Nice poll ha. P. sp mascara gets pretty big too, supposedly 9".

Thing about antinous is that hobby "antinous" is nearly any black Pamphobeteus, so you may not get antinous if that's what you order.

Anyone know how big sp San Domingo Goliath get? They look massive according to pictures!

Any tarantulas can be 15" with the lens three inches away. Don't trust pictures.

All Pamphos are impressive when they reach adult size. Does one inch more or less really matter so much? And not all specimen of the same species reach the same size anyway, so I would say you should get the one you like the looks of the most. I have a P. sp mascara because I like the interesting looking colours of mature females. I was considering P. antinous, but some specimen I saw looked brown while others are jet black (which I wanted). I am glad I went for the mascara. She is still small and only starts to show her adult colours since the last molt. I don't know how its personality will develop later on, but for now it is pretty laid-back and I like the way it looks. By the way, P. antinous is one of the few species of this genus that lacks the beautiful black-on-red Christmas tree pattern. They look rather boring compared to others in this genus.

Don't be confused...following a molt they are black, when they get close to molting they turn a chocolaty brown....just like nigricolor (which also gets 9")....this is all the same spider....

Aha. That explains a lot. Thanks for the clarification with pictures! :)

Still, I prefer my P sp mascara. I really like those black-and-tan contrasts. However, I might consider investing a bit more in Pamphos when I have more room in a few years from now. Perhaps P. solaris will also be more affordable by then ;)

Few months ago, I bought a Pampho sp. Goliath and it is already gigantic in three molts. I also have fortis, but that one is much smaller. I would say the biggest is the sp. Goliath or nigricolor. I need to invest more in Pamphos though, they are one of my favorite genera. Not a huge fan of nigricolor myself, I like having a little more of the pink/purple in there as females. Of only I could get a Solaris (at a "decent" price), my life would be complete :embarrassed: Platyomma is a pretty good option, as they get some good color and don't break the bank. I would take that over a nigricolor any day, if only for the look of the MFs.

@sasker take a gander at P. sp paisa too, you may like that one.

I've got a pair of sp mascara and I have to agree, they're awesome!

For "decent" priced (relative to solaris) colorful ones, check out sp costa and sp insignis. Both keep quite a bit of color as adults, especially on their femurs.

Regarding nigricolor though, yours looks a lot different from what I know as nigricolor, hobby form and true, @cold blood. What I know as nigricolor (all) has lots of red setae on the abdomen, and nearly looks like a cross between Xenesthis and Pamphobeteus. Maybe suspicious labeling by the importer or dealer, or do you know something I don't know? Edit, on second look, yours looks more like sp machala to me, but they import like crazy from all over Ecuador and Colombia, so meh, that's just a shot in the dark.

Another edit because I'm a rascal

Mine is CB. When it was younger it looked a lot like Xenesthis as you described...as for the red setae...she has them in spades, they just don't photograph well for me. If you look at the back of her rump you can see some sticking off the back.

OK, that makes sense then because I'm pretty sure a lot of the pictures I've seen are of juvenile spiders. I have to wonder what those true nigricolor end up looking like a adults.

My Pamphobeteus sp "Machala" has grown from 1.75" to over 7" in 19 months and 6 molts. I received her in Oct 2015 at 1.75" sling. Molts as follows 11/24/15, 01/29/16, 05/03/16, 07/25/16, 12/11/16, and 06/27/17. Last molt measures just shy of 7"
I found very little information on this Pamph's adult size, the one decent website I found says they reach 25/26cm or 9.84-10.23" !!

I hope they reach this size LOL
Pic of her post molt (2 molts ago) and her last molt next to a ruler.
