Well Well Well, looks like one indeed...look at the flat Carapace almost like a thumb print smashed it flat. I look forward to giving them a call tomorrow and find out who, what, when, where, why, how. This is their correct Address: 149 Plaistow Rd, Plaistow, NH 03865 Phone (603) 382-3338 ?. Thanks for the pictured response and great pick up....get as many as you can if they have more for 30.00 bucks :drunk:
Too bad tarantulas can't talk. I'm dying to know how it ended up in a random pet store. It's not like this is a rosea or smithi. Do report back to tell us what you found!

Yeah the tarantula guy knew nothing about it, it was the only one there. I'd love to know how they got it. They specialize in reptiles and tarantulas but I use the word specialize loosely.

It seemed dehydrated but seems to be doing ok now, and fairly active.

Well that makes a bit more sense now, those Nerd guys tried to dabble in the spider business a while back, and got some high end spiders in. It was short lived, and this spider is likely a left over one from that. Nice score, if they are selling it for 30 bucks, it goes to show you how clueless they really are, and why they had no business trying to play spider dealer.

Yeah, pretty much. I was less then impressed by the way the spiders were kept and what was known about them. I drove three hours to see the place because someone had told me they had nice T's. The website was completely not up to date, they didn't have most of the stuff I wanted off there. Guy acted like he was giving me this huge deal because he gave me an LP juvenile for free.

Little does he know what a deal I got :p

So.....I called and first was transferred from the from the front desk to the "guy up stairs". After speaking with the guy up stairs he needed to transfer me to his "spider guy". Spider guy was genuine and humble and admitted that he is learning and wanted to further his knowledge of tarantulas (never heard of AB so I pointed him this direction). Facts were the this spider was priced from the previous "spider guy" who left and went off to school some where. To his knowledge the spider was probably originally acquired by someone dropping it off to them as they either were getting out of the hobby or wanted to be charitable and give a 300-500 dollar rare female tarantula to a pet store for free. When I alerted him that this was such a tarantula (don't worry I told him after I knew he could not get more or had more for 30.00 as I asked) he felt very embarrassed as he stated he not only sold the spider for cheap, but then gave an additional percent off at the register because it was such a high total (50.00 + dollars or so lol).

Lessened learned is check out those local pet stores as you never know when they have a half a grand tarantula sitting on the shelf for 30.00 :link:

Who the heck drops off something that expensive at a pet store?

(Probably some spoiled, entitled rich kid because I can't imagine anyone else that wouldn't want to recoup what they paid for it)

lol, I love that he threw in a free parahybana to sweeten the deal. That was well worth the 3 hour drive alone. I don't know if I buy the story about someone dropping it off. If you look at there price sheet on the website, it list many of the rare spiders they use to have. I still think it was left around from those days, and probably got price tags mixed up with incompetent spider guys. I'm pretty sure they were getting their stuff from Robert Penny, the same guy that is supplying some of the newer bone head dealers.

I can believe it. I've purchase spiders from pet stores that should have been sold for a heck of a lot more money than what I paid for.
Brachypelma smithi 6" inch female no tax for $25.00 dollars. I purchased her and ran across country with a big smile on my face.
The guy that sold it to the pet store probably had big issues to deal with and needed cash quickly for the spiders. Or the spiders were stolen goods and needed to get rid of them for fast cash.

500$ for that thing? Looks pretty similar to an avic to me besides the carapace...If this is true, and I was the OP, I would sell that thing so fast

Ya, they will sell anything they can in Colorado lol.....:cigar: Just need to find the right buyer :greedy:

Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder ....one might consider a female adult pulchra just a black spider and silly for 350.00, another may say an adult female bicoloratum is just another smithi and never pay 400.00, perhaps some say the Acanthoscurria fracta is boring looking just like a juruenicola and is not worth 500.00. Yet to others there is often almost no price tag to high.

I love em all ;)

I've had a few inquiries as to if I would sell it and at the moment I'm not considering it just because I want to make sure this female is healthy, as she put herself completely in the water dish when I put a water dish in there(they had no water dishes in any of the "upstairs" spiders enclosures.

I also think I would rather wait around and hope that someday I find a male. I've never bred tarantulas and never had a desire to before but I feel like it would be a shame not to with something so uncommon! This however is all forward thinking as I may never find a male and I have a lot of research to do on breeding before then anyways. I'm certainly not in a hurry.

I feel very fortunate for acquiring this gal and am glad I didn't pass it up! I am going to get her set up in something better then the tall deli cup she's in. Was told on AB on fb that this species lives in Bromelaids in the wild so I'm going to try to replicate that if I can find brom's somewhere this time of the year.

And we make dang good money while doing it :cigar::smug:

I too love all T's, however most of the high priced tarantulas involve vivid colors/ cool patterns. If I didn't know better I'd just think this was some avic sp.

Seriously! That's what I thought. I thought it was probably some sort of avic that changed names or something and that, that was why I couldn't find anything about it!
