Ok. I'm going to treat myself this month. I have the option to buy either a sub adult male T. Apophysis for £85 (to start a breeding project), or a 1cm P. Metallica for £110...

Having trouble deciding....

Since I have both (female T. apophysis and unsexed P. metallica), if I were to be faced with your same decision, I would go with the P. metallica. I have found recently that I prefer Pokies because of their beauty and speed. The T. apophysis is impressive in size, but is not as stunningly beautiful.

I would have gone with the T. apophysis anyway. Poeky metallica just isn't that impressive.

Hi, why should he? T. apophysis is very impressive, P. metallica is just another Pookie with a little blue ;O) And too expensive as well...

My exchange rates are a couple of weeks old, but at the time £1 was roughly $1.75.

heh....no wonder the Metallica went so fast, that's quite a sum (in the tarantula hobby) less than the price we have for one.

£80 - £90 is the going rate in the UK for P.metallica.

I would have chose the P. metallica as well. Theraphosa urticating hairs just kill me. Once my T. blondi is mature and goes on his merry way for breeding, I will never buy another one. I'm not affected by any of my other spiders, but his hairs make me itch for weeks.

Of all my T.blondis, T. apophysis, and Pamphobeteus', I have gotten hit probably less than ten times with hairs - once I inhaled T. apophysis hair.... that sucked. Try handling them less, they are such great Ts too have... I hate to see anyone be turned off by these giants.

I am quite sensitive to the hairs on my T. apophysis and will break out after simple cage maintenance. This occurs even when using long forceps. I still enjoy mine and she is quite impressive. My only point is that some of us can be quite sensitive and the hairs can REALLY make us uncomfortable.

Gloves? It just sucks for the sensitive because the Ts with the really bad hairs are, in my opinion, the greatest ones. Maybe I'll construct suits for you all.
