congrats! Good luck with it

also baby isopods are extremely tiny... I've fed off newborn orange isopods to Cyriocosmus slings before. And if you have the little white species, they're even more miniscule.

Congrads Rob!

I stayed out of the thread prior to this as I had no constructive help to offer. I have been following it and keeping my fingers crossed for you....

Woohoo

Yep Rob, they are. I've kept and bred both the grey and the smaller whitish species, and the newborn are extremely tiny. Newborns of the smaller white species are even smaller than mites I would say.

The only problem is that, because they are so tiny, you really can't tell if they are baby isopods or mites till they grow a little. But since you've said you rarely get mites in your enclousures, I wouldn't worry about it.

PROBABLY baby isopods. Once you take some pictures with the macro it will be easier to tell.

Good luck with the metallica eggsac. Hope everything goes well.

Cheers,

Dan

I made another thread with these pics in it...these are macro shots of whatever bugs are in the bottom of her hide. Looks like springtails to me.

I've been searching some more after my last post in the other thread. Now I'm 97% sure these are springtails. These look more athletic and slender looking than the fat and round pesky mites. So I say springtails....again.

Rob, what are the odds that a cricket you threw in there laid eggs and those are actually baby crickets? I had those recently. I treated them as mites, but ....

Very good chance, I usually don't feed crickets but my P. formosa wich is right next to her had bay crickets in it...bigger than these....weell babie crickets are better than mites IMHO....I was wondering how it could be mites because i have not had mites in years.

Definitely look like springtails to me. those antennae are easy to distinguish from the other legs.
