Tarantulas will not overfeed naturally, although a bloated abdomen increases rupture chances upon a fall. There are other risks for leaving prey permanently with Tarantulas: the 'feeder' can pose a threat to a molting tarantula for instance. How is it with other arachnida? Can you lethally overfeed a Steatoda? Can you overfeed a Phidippus?

My personal experience with various "true" spiders suggests that they will not eat themselves to death. They eat until they are full - then stop, even if additional prey is available. Sometimes my orb weavers will kill/wrap "extra" bugs that get caught in their webs - but then they just leave it hanging in the web for later. The same appears to be true of other arachnids such as vinegaroons, amblypygi, and solifugids. They eat when they're hungry - and ignore surplus prey.
