no, he's on peat moss. which is the brown "dirt" not the MOSS.

i've used it for high humidity arachnids and had better results that eco earth or coco fiber, which have both grown mold faster than my peat moss has.

I think that peat moss is supposed to be another acceptable substrate. I believe that it is less prone to mold due to being acidic. But I've never had any problem with mold developing in coco fiber either, even in the humid environment of my pacman frog tank.

I ran onto a pretty good caresheet a few minutes ago, written by a fellow at another forum. It made me think of this thread and I thought I'd link to it in case you are interested.

Its a good ref. and not being kept together is right, except for this :?

"Do NOT keep more than one Pacman in a terrarium. They will try to eat each other! (The same goes for any other kind of animal.) Pacman frogs should be kept alone."

Peatmoss is still dangerous for your pacman since it isn't an all natural product and can still impact it. I would recommend sticking with coco fiber. My pac has swallowed endless amounts of this stuff trying to catch crix and never had a problem.

P.S. I wouldn't try soil either

That is phrased just a little confusingly, but I think he meant that the same goes for keeping any other kind of animal with a pacman. Because all creatures are equal in the eyes of a pacman frog. That is to say, equal opportunities for lunch!

What? How is peat moss not all natural?

That being said, coir is probably better since it tends to be more airy than peat...and peat may be too acidic.

our little "wall-e" is doing great. now that he's settled in, he's eating like a pig and has really fattened up. it's obvious now how dehydrated he was at first, as now he has those "pouches" on his sides that weren't there when we got him.

he ate 4 roaches tonight. obviously he won't get that many all the time, but i wanted to make sure he had a good meal. :)

You'll be amazed at how fast those things grow. I was kind of startled when mine emerged from being hunkered down in the dirt for a couple weeks. "Hey! What happened to my little frog?!"
Mine turned out to be a male, so he's probably topped out now. I like him, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't wish he had turned out to be a female. But, I'm just happy that he seems healthy and that so far I've had good luck with him.

i'd really like an albino as well.

it's weird, i remember petsmart carrying several of them, both normal and albino, years ago. now it seems like no one carries them, period. :?

I have another suggestion on substrate.
Many years ago I kept many frogs in the ceratophrys family and we kept them in rubbermaid sweater boxes with half water half foam. The foam had a round hole cut in the middle a little bigger than the frogs size and the water edge was cut to a slope,. As they grow you can increase the hole size.
This is a soft foam about 3 to 4 inches thick, similar to a sponge material.
It works well for easy cleaning, no impaction problems, food is easy to find. Worked well for many years.

Make sure you remove all the little twigs and junk found in peat moss. I have lost a horned frog from swallowing a large twig that I didn't know was in the peat moss. Peat moss is also too acidic for amphibians (according to Amphibian Medicine and Captive Husbandry - Dr. Wright/Dr. Whitaker), so you should add some coco fiber or switch to coco fiber completely. I prefer coco fiber and the Flukers moss which you were originally using. Your frog sure did look alot more vibrant with the green substrate than it does in dirt! I have never had a problem with impaction from the moss. If you watch your frog eat, you will see it spit out and dispell any substrate it happens to catch while feeding with its front legs. The risk is minimal at most.

You're going to love him! Mine always barks at me and snaps at my fingers when getting the water dish out, it's so cute. You should invest in some isopods, for sure. I originally got mine for the T's but realized they didn't need them as much as the Pacman. I would imagine contacting Rochelle (that's her SN on here) would help with the isopods. She's great! You can buy them elsewhere online, but you end up having to buy larger quantities. Unless of course, you have them out in your yard, but you never know about the chance of insecticides or other harmful stuff.
