We picked up our newest pets yesterday. My son really wanted one at the last expo, but I refuse to purchase any animal until I research care. So after researching for about a month we decided to get a Brazilian Black Tarantula (Grammostola pulchra) and a Pink Toe Tarantula (Avicularia avicularia). I love taking pics so I pulled out the Macro Lens, which is a big step for me considering I am so scared of spiders. Why get them then you might ask? I feel that passing my fears on to my kids would be wrong so my 3 year old gets his Tarantulas and Daddy takes care of them and mum works on overcoming her fear lol! I love the eye shot lol. The pink toe seems to be settling in nicely she got a drink, started building her web overnight, and she is just finishing her first cricket!! bbt.jpg bbt2.jpg bbt3.jpg PTT.jpg PTT2.jpg PTT3.jpg PTT4.jpg PTTeyes.jpg

Congrats on working to overcome your fear! In a few months you'll have a few more. Rinse, repeat ;) I've wanted a pulchra for a very long time but always seem to find something else to buy lol. Avics are fun, web a lot, and the pink toes usually draw comments.

My hubby was handling the Pink toe today and she was really neat to watch walking over his hands. Watching her eat was the coolest thing I have ever seen, once she gets used to use I am going to start trying to handle them. The Brazillian will be a while before handling though cause its soooo small. But learning about them has been really fun. I have never even attempted to learn about them before and really they are interesting creatures.

first of all, congrats on the new additions. i know you will enjoy them! handling is really controversial around here with alot of people very much against it. handling has no benefits for the spider, only cons. jumping off hand, squeezing, etc. also, tarantulas cant "get used" to being handled.
