That is wicked, copperheads really are gorgeous, "they" should make some non-hots look as nice, i mean imagine a python that looked like an eyelash viper, those bright colors, it is silly i know but come on just imagine.

Aren't venomoids cruel to the snake? i would not want to spend money on something that has to harm a snake before i get it? that would suck.
cheers

Yes, the creation of venomoids is VERY cruel and inhumane. The mortality rate for snakes that venomoid surgery is attempted on is extremely high. Not to mention that the vast majority of venomoids are created by backyard hackers in their garage, in less than sterile conditions. Many of the snakes that make it through the surgery, beat any infection that comes from using non-sterile equipment and the stress of the ordeal is usually scarred up horribly for life.

Some people say that if the surgery is done by a vet with the proper equipment it is OK...well, any vet that is worth his/her salt won't do the surgery because it could cause them to lose their liscense to practice veterinary medicine.

The fact is that there is no good reason to hack up a venomous snake. It is completely barbaric and unnecessary.

They do. Maybe not a python, and maybe not an exact replica of an eyelash, but to say that there aren't any non-venomous snakes that compete with hots is a bit silly, especially when you're talking about copperheads. They're gorgeous snakes, but there are plenty of harmless snakes that look just as good. I could just as easily take a Mexican Spilotes or an Okeetee corn and lament the fact that they don't "make" any hots that look as good. ;)

I hate to sound stupid but what is a venomoid? Please don't tell me they surgically remove the venom sacs that the snakes use for digestion? I really do want to know what this is as I have never heard of it

Sorry im just quite partial to pythons is all, i did not intend to say there were no non-venomous that looked as good, i mean look at the tricolor scarlet kings and milks as compared to Micrurus, you are right defour there are plenty. In my case i just dont like colubrids, not to say i dont appreciate em. but still would it not be cool to have Bothrops bilineata that you knew could not kill you.
cheers

While I have heard that live feedings are unpleasant to listen to, it is certainly very cool to see pics of. I'm a visitor here...and am enjoying looking around. Good stuff, guys!

It isn't directly known that the vemon is used for digestion. It is suspected. However, yes, the sacs are usually removed or the ducts are just cut. In either case it's some <expletive not added> in a garage doing a hack job. (Basically, what David just said) It really shouldn't be performed by anybody other than a vet, and even then you'd be hard pressed to find a vet to do one. At least 90% of the time, if and I say if you got a venomoid, you'd be lucky if it wasn't still a hot. It would probably be sold with "look, it can't inject venom, it's perfectly safe" etc.

Nice snake Brian

Venomoids is idiotic. If one can't handle a venomous snake one should not get one. There's plenty of beautyfull non-hots to chose from. Another example of ****** up things people do out of greed.
