Ornamental baboon, aka Togo... Either way, overlooked.

Code,
I bought 5 P. murinus from TarantulaKeeper, and the females don't molt near as often as the males. When I got them they were within a 1/4" of each other, and now the males are 3 times the size of the females. I feed them the same amount, although the males now get larger cricket, and the temp is the same. So, I'd say you have a female. IMO

No it wasnt any warmer than my other tarantulas I keep and plus it was winter so it was nippier than it is in summer obviously. I think maybe it was faster because of its maleness.

Sounds the same as mine. I've had it since December with no molts. It's a female for sure, and about 4".

For the record, this is my favorite species when we're talking color :) I also like watching when she's active, and struting around the cage. Same walk as a pinktoe, but like watching it in fast-forward! ;)

Hampton, the juves have the mottled brown/tan coloration, as they get older they brown goes to black and the tan fades to white and you get the classic looking togo.

Ya they are supposed to have potent venom but mine isnt aggressive or defensive as long as I give her space. She has never shown a threat posture even when poked. She will just run away from it and get behind her log. They are extremely fast though. Not as fast as my Suntiger but fast. Beautiful though and worth the risk, and as i said as long as you dont bother them by poking or prodding around their web you should be fine.

peace

they look really cool, and i imagine i probably could take care of one w/out much difficulty...but i'm too paranoid to have anything in my room that i'd actually have to be worried about if it got loose:eek:

Doesn't Stromatopelma calceata also look like that, but a bit more creamy-yellow?

Featherlegs are similar looking, but they definitely are not as strikingly marked. An adult maculata looks like some sort negative of chiaroscuro artwork. They are one of the most unique Ts out there as far as appearance goes.

I just hope I actually get to see mine more as it grows larger. In the almost year I've had it I've gotten a good look at it twice (and both times were because I was physically manipulating it).

Think long paint brush. I've had to chase mine clean across my room and under a desk. While it will run and hard, I've never seen anything I'd call genuinely violent from it towards me
