Opinion On Y. Diversipes?

hi all! so, i'm certainly not new to the hobby, and i recently came across a pretty decent deal for a young y. diversipes sling. this is a species i don't know a ton about temperament wise, and i have heard both that they are skittish, and / or defensive (which to me, are not exactly the same thing lol).

i suppose i was wondering what their behavior could possibly be comparable to? i've kept normal avic avics, as well as a. rufa, p. irminia, p. machala, a. juruensis, etc! am i looking at behavior more similar to my p. irminia? or just the general flightiness of avics?

Just general flightiness I've never had any sort of threat from these guys, just like most Avics but a bit more colourful.

oh cool, cool! i've heard so many people describe them as being "super defensive", which i don't have a problem with, but would've liked an idea about. any extra tips for keeping them? i've heard they can be a bit difficult in the same way as versis.

As long as the setup is on point these guys are like any other Avic. They are faster and more skittish, don't like being disturbed (kinda like pokies), they do get more defensive as they get to adults sizes, with the list of T's you have kept you shouldn't have any issues at all with it. Guy on here @viper69 go check out his signature he would be my go to for any Avic advice.

You heard correctly about them. Keep as an Avic, they used to be in that genus.

thanks so much, i appreciate you both! i've been debating between the diversipes and a t. rasti for a hot minute, but i definitely think this has made up my mind with a more concrete answer.

Follow the advice in Vipers signature and you won't go wrong. Good luck with you're new T, post some pics when you get it all set up.

that's fair for sure! this is essentially me treating myself after a raise at work, so i'm willing to spend a bit this time around.

I am currently keeping two, I don’t see them much different than any other arboreals, such as Caribena versicolor, or Avics in general.

that's what i'm seeming to gather from everyone else. i'd honestly heard some "horror stories" about them being extremely temperamental, which was what i was ultimately curious about. it's not really a deal breaker for me, but just something i wanted to know ahead of time lol!

LOL nah, i know! like i said, i wasn't concerned about it necessarily, as i've kept some defensive species in the past, i just like to get an idea of what to expect out of them ahead of time. i know nothing's concrete in that regard, but y'know.

I have owned 2 adults. The male died during ultimate molt. The female died 2 weeks after molt. I will never own them again. Never had avics or any other species die as an adult.
