Hi, I am a arthropod enthusiast and will be going on vacation to Australia (Sydney) at the end of January next year.

As you know, Australia has many unique and diverse spiders, scorpions and centipedes, so I would like to observe them.

Since I do not live in Australia, I plan to find them, observe them, take pictures of them and then release them.

Of course, I have no intention of taking the creatures out of Australia.

Can simply 'collecting' them be subject to legal regulations?

I think collecting them in national parks would be undesirable, but collecting them in other areas (urban parks or forests) is allowed?

If anyone knows anything about this, I'll wait for your reply.

Paging @RezonantVoid.
My recollections are vague.
Just forget collecting for export. Licenses, restrictions and red tape for miles ahead. This may include animal parts/samples/specimens.
Collecting animals is regulated by each state or territory. Collecting for catch and release is least concern but checking with local authorities is advised. Keeping the animals for observation, temporary, may require a license in some locations. Many, most or all will have strict laws and rules regarding disturbing natural habitats.
The laws are for both animal protection and yourself.
