Old world Arboreals that you see a fair bit.

I've kept C sp Hati Hati before. I've kept Psalmos, although the one I have now, the reduncus is pretty mellow I never see it use it's speed really. I've had cambridgei slings and adults, Irminia and pulcher slings.

I'm looking for an old world arboreal that I'll actually see. I would love a P regalis. The only thing putting me off is I may not have the space in between shelves for an enclosure when it reaches adulthood as I know they need 18" if height. Maybe I could remove a shelf I don't know.

What other genera if Asian old worlds will I actually see. I'm staying away from Stromatopalminae species. I do have Semi-arboreal species from Africa as I have two types of P murinus (RCF and TCF).

Are there any Asian Arboreals other than I'm the Poecilotheria genus that stay out and about, I will probably get P regalis but I'd love other options too because you know I will probably get them with this hobby being so addictive haha. Must be able to see them a fair bit if possible I know you can with a lot of Pokeys apart from P metallica.

From what I've noticed with mine, if you keep the lights bright enough to see them clearly, but dim enough to not seem like the middle of the day, most arboreals are out all the time.
As soon as bright lights switch on they go hide though, so it might help if anyone knows the light sensitivity levels of each species, as some are more tolerant than others.

Even my quezon blue earth tiger (a fossorial), has lots of digging space, a deep webbed up burrow, and chooses anyway to stay out and climb the walls 50% of the time, and hang out at the burrow entrance another 30% of the time.
All because my lighting is soft and humidity is high. Unfortunately, its very bad for photography.

The exception I've had with this rule is with my Avic avic, its always out no matter what.
It's the most chill spider I have. it never attacks the water dish when i refill it, never threat poses, never runs and hides, never bolts or panics.
Even when feeding its very mellow about it.

I see all of my pokies all the time. From slings to juvies to adults. They are an amazing genus of tarantulas and have a terrible stigma attached to them. This is my opinion, but there is no other OW to consider here. Get a Regalis. You'll thank me

P regalis is what I'm thinking of. I like some others but I hear ornata can be the most high strung but I think that species is beautiful and rufilata is beautiful. P regalis are stunning when you can see the yellow on them more..They get about 7-8" aswell don't they? Make a pretty good centrepiece or display T. There are some awesome looking Arboreals other than Pokeys too they just seem to hide away all the time and I get that it can be light sensitivity but it's hard to keep sunlight out totally during the day... I know Pokeys kind of blend in almost and they stay out and about more which is what I want, even my Grammostola iheringi stays in its hide most of the time and it's the favourite T I have at the moment so that's a bit frustrating haha.

Even pokeys hide at times. But, Regalis is out quite a bit. I can't think of many OW T's that are out often. It's in their nature to hide. Especially arboreals. Harpactira may be something you look into. Though my Pulchripes spends a bunch of time in its burrow. I remember a while back I mentioned Pamphobeteus or A geniculata. You really can't beat those in terms of visibility. They don't kick hairs like many other T's. Phormictopus is another one. My phormics or genic haven't kicked at me a single time (seriously) Unless your hyper reactive to allergies, I'd strongly consider them.

I know you mentioned arboreal, but you mentioned your Iheringi so I figured I'd toss those in. But, again. Poecilitheria is your best bet. Ornata, not sure if that's a great move. Unless you have a ton of experience. A 8 or 9" defensive T with that level of venom potency is no joke. My Rufilata is a sweetheart and I love her, but she is my most intimidating T by far. Not trying to scare you, but it's a serious decision to make. I attached a picture. She isn't done growing

In so many ways, to boot. In all seriousness, in my personal opinion, Avics are more deserving of most of the slights leveled against pokies. I'll never let my guard down, but I find them an absolute joy to keep AND maintain.

Are you offering heat? Or just room temp? Sometimes, the specs in our homes are just average for them. Tweaking husbandry can give results.

I had an A geniculata and all it did was kick Ts. Waiting on a breeding for Phormictopus sp Purple I know they prefer to threat pose haha, my A geniculata was terrible for flicking hairs despite a hide it utilised a fair bit but did venture out and plenty of fake foliage, I think A geniculata can go either way with flicking hairs. I've heard a lot of Pamphos are flicky but Phormics the least out of any that have the ability too.

Regarding Harpactira that was my observation, pulchripes was never out, hardly saw my namaquensis but that was a smaller sling, they're a nice genus though.

Apparently Phormingochilus sp Sabah Blue are out a lot but I haven't got Sabah Blue money they're very expensive in the UK but if I see those go down in price they're one I may look at.

Poecilotheria regalis and Phormictopus sp Dominican Purple are species I want next, then maybe a couple of Psalmos, emeraldus maybe and victorii, Got the P murinus TCF and RCF.

Considering H mac but heard you don't see them. S calceatum is the one species that would probably make me more nervous than any. Not afraid to jump at you and bite to defend themselves you don't have to just corner them haha.

Talking about Old worlds though, strangely, I see my Selenocosmia javanensis quite a bit, So fast that species.

Yeah, although I need another heat mat, the heating tube is doing them ok at the moment on top of books up close to it and move them further away of a night, 23-25c of a day 19-21 of a night, the ones on the heat mat range from 20-24c. I definitely need a bigger heat mat though. I don't have an affordable option for heating the room or I would do that, I may be adding more heating tubes to bring up the ambient temperature in the corner they are in though. Someone mentioned heat cables are they a good safe option, I've always used heat mats along with the heating tube that's behind the shelving?

Regarding Pokeys I noticed a lot of people enjoy keeping regalis and they are stunning as many of the genus. P regalis is the third largest isn't it? P rufilata and P ornata being the largest.

Is vitatta the smallest or subfusca or Formosa I forget which?

This is what I wake up to almost every morning.

What size enclosure is she in? I'm not sure which dimensions to get for my adult female if I get a one that turns out to be female? Some say there's is happy in 8"x12"x12" Some say 12"x12"x18".

Here is a little bit of a better photo. I’ve had her for 4 years (she was an adult when I got her). I fed her crickets last from the same place I always go.

It doesn’t look like worms to the eye, it looks crusty or scabbed almost

You know more about that than I do, although my formosa is on the smaller side. The rufilata I have is still young, but the "flightiest" of the bunch, in that it's the fastest to retreat back into its hide....moves the fastest of the pokies I have, but that's not to say erratically, or unpredictable, just the fastest. I pay extra attention when tending to it's upkeep, but have yet to have it flee from its hollow (which I block & isolate anyways). Unfortunately, I can't have an Ornata, so I can't speak to them at all.

I’ll be honnest with you, i have not read/heard much about heating tubes. Most of my hours of research fall into the heating mat + pulse thermostat category.

of course, im curious about the tubes. But i won’t be using those. Im saving for a high end pulse thermostat. I will be buying a space heater as well. I have a very small collection. But i want them thriving.

the whole, if your comfortable they are comfortable theory, is not working for me. I am not saying it is not working. It is.

its not how i want to do things.

does it mean its bad if someone else doesnt want to? No. You do you. What are your goals?

you think breeders do the whole i am comfortable thing? Ever go inside a tarantula dealer store? I had to strip off almost all my clothes it was so hot in there.

i want to find a system to heat my book shelf. Space heater will work, but space is HUGE. So next step is what i said before.

Also, this is a must see, if you have not already.

I think so many “display” issues come because of ambient specs. I truely believe it. I want to try it for myself. If its working for the breeders, then they are obviously onto something.

of course, locality comes into play. Im repeating this, but everyone is responsible to adjust ambient specs with their geographic weather specs.

ps: in the video: he covers heating cables. Maybe this is what you are saying to me when you mention tubes. Its very interesting.

@TheraMygalo Thanks I will check this out. Someone mentioned heat cables to me. If they're good I'll give them a try. What are pulse thermostats are they a heater/stat combo?

Pokies are regular visible from the species I kept Miranda, regalis, striata etc …
Funnily enough I just checked out those species and liked the miranda and striata. Is the Formosa or subfusca highland the smallest. I did like the look of the Subfusca Highland and that may well be one I keep in a slightly smaller enclosure.

The thermostat, at the base, is what regulates the heat. So it controls how high the heat mat will go. Its not a perfect calibrated tool. It gives you an average.

the regular thermostat shuts off when required heat level is obtained. Then turns back on to reach it again. Thus using more power. Its not my choice thermostat.

the pulse thermostat, never really stops. Its like small bursts to always keep level where you want it. Like a heartbeat.

More economical. More costly. Best investement for those with more then one tarantula who want the best results for the money invested. And also, technology wise.

you plug in whatever heating system you are using to it.

once you watch the video, you will understand, if i didnt vulgarize it right.

i never considered heat cables before, but now this seems way better for me considering that i have more then one tarantula.

Yeah that sounds a very good idea I think I'll give them a look on Amazon, do I just look for reptile pulse thermostats? Or are they multi use thermostats?

I dont know if there are multi use, probably. But my train of thought would be to use something built for resptiles.

soil warming cables can often come with the companies thermostat. Its a good option if they offer pulse thermostat.

it depends on what you want.

you can probably get good thermostat prices at expos.

I’m not sure miranda is pretty small not sure which one of those is the smallest unless you already know there max sizes.

It’s a 10”x10”footprint, 12” high.
She’s 7” DLS, and it seems like enough space for her.

So my 12" cube Exo Terra should be big enough for most Pokey species. Any experience with P fasciata? I can't find much info when it comes to keeper experience across the forums with fasciata
