the metallic brown "traps" almost look like they could be from a more purseweb type family. those are some massive chelicerae and fangs :D

thanks :D

i didnt manage to get any pics of the black, it was smaller and much more flighty rather than defensive...couldnt really get it to hold still. the fangs on the metallic browns are a trip, theyve since all burrowed down, so it will probably be a while until i see them again  {D

If you're interested, your red is an Idiopid, looks like Ctenelophus, and the 'metallic' brown is a Cyrtaucheniid, Ancylotrypa sp.
Sometimes fertilized females are imported, so be on the lookout (assuming you have a mature female).

I've seen one of the red trap doors so calm it can be handled no worries at all! I just picked up one today that seems to be flighty but not aggressive. (I forgot it with a friend though! So I will find out for sure tomorrow hehehe.)

your spiders have mites, watch out!
i noticed some on my male met.brn.trap after looking through the pics, WCs, nature of the beast i suppose

froggyman, the leopard gecko is a tremper albino 100% het.blizz/RAPTOR....i bought a 1.1 pair...im looking forwards to see what they produce next season

jeff h, thanks for the IDs, cool pic BTW. im not sure if id have the stones to handle one though! when my male matures i plan on having a go at mating this species.

I thought all Idopids had a pair of eyes forward of the cluster. I don't see that in those pics. Wouldn't that make it a Ctenizid?

Good observation. I don't really see them either, but as far as eye can tell, there are only six eyes in the cluster, and it looks like one of the ALE's is visible at 400%.

I still think it is a typical African red, and if your following Mitchrobot, any chance of a close up of the sternum and ocular area to possibly help ID?
