Thanks!

Cool isn't she!?

The original price was 39.00, but I've got some connections so she was substantially less.;)

I paid $40 for mine from Botar. He had it labelled as O. glabrifrons, and from the articles I've read and pictures I've seen, yours seems to be the same. I've only had mine about 6 months, but it is a really interesting specimen. Yours looks ready to pop with scorplings. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the help! I need to get more now...

Yours looks ready to pop with scorplings.
Oh I hope I hope I hope! Although I have read some reports that O. glabifrons are well known for eating their scorplings at the slightest disturbance. Yikes.

from what I have read, Opistophthalmus is comprised of very closely related species, and telling the difference is very difficult. I have two, supposedly an O.glabifrons and O.wahlbergii, and both stridulate at the slightest whim.

Both are very different in behavior, however. The O.g. tends to stand still when the enclosure is opened for feeding, while the O.w. will charge and stridulate! They are very cool scorps, and I love the subtle colors on them.

Enjoy it, whatever it turns out to be.

Hi There,

I think your scorpion is Opistophthalmus Wahlbergii.

I had a Opistophthalmus Glabifrons in the past. I noticed on your picture that your scorps pedipalps are bumpy, yet my Opistophthalmus Glabifrons pedipalps were smooth.

I think you have Wahlbergii.

Either that or my I.D was wrong! LOL!

There does seem to be a lot of confusion with the scientific names of these scorps though.

LHP,

The easiest way to diffentiate between O. glabrifrons and O. wahlbergii is to examine metasoma segments I-III. If a distinct ventrosubmedian keel is present on metasomal segments I-III = O. glabrifrons.

If absent = O. wahlbergii.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Luc, here is a picture I just took... are those distinct enough:? Or am I looking at the wrong things entirely?

LHP,

Sorry Bro, I forgot all about this thread!

Looks like you have a very beautiful O. glabrifrons!

However, when dealing wih many species in genus Opistophthalmus, there exists a very high polymorphism in many species and there's always the possibility of an undescribed species entering the pet-trade. Would be nice to see other members of this fascinating genus enter the hobby!
As for taxonomy, I'll leave that to the likes of Eric, Alex, Oliver, Chad, etc...Personally, I'm good with just knowing it's a "cool-lookin' scorp" regardless of species! LOL

Take care,
Luc

Thanks for the help Luc! While I don't really name my invertabrates...I have to admit I've been refering to her as "Gabby-the-glabi.";) . Couldn't help it...name just popped in my head and stuck. Good to know her name is not too far off base!

Sorry Bro
Sorry Sis? Guess that doesn't really work...anyways I'm a girl:D

Thanks again!

Lindsey,

So sorry for the confusion with gender. In my defense, I was not provided with a photo to ID via morphostructure! LOL
You know you've been around inverts too long when you refer to one of your bro's pregnant gf as being gravid! LOL

Take care,
Luc
