Just got a new B albo. sling today. I was wondering how humid i should keep it. Ive never had a sling before, or atleast not one indigenous to California. Also how often should i feed it. I heard from the pet shop owner that they are ravenous!!!. Any advice would be surely appreciated. Ill be posting pics soon-Nick

I have two of them. Keep slightly moist substrate, and I feed 3 times a week. They grow fast, if you keep them warm and feed them well they will moult around once a month. Mine are really cute, they are little bulldozers, they move their substrate all over.

they are quite easy, they are so greedy how big is it? and how big are the crix? we feed ours every other day with an according amount of crix depending on size compared to the spider. Ours also grew very fast so it shouldn't take to long till its big. lol.

Keep them just as everyone has already said. I was scared to death when I first started raising slings. You don't need a heat lamp unless your house temps are way below 68/70 all the time. I have 2 that I have raised from 1/4 inch slings that have done very well, and are both now fully mature girls. I have them now in med. & large critter keepers. These two seemed extremely happy when I put coconut, half size hides in their tanks. When they come out of their hides, I know they want to eat. They eat crickets, superworms, and large mealworms for me. Raoches have not been accepted. Actually, these are the tarantulas I think should be sold in petshops as the ones for first time tarantula keepers because they are so much easier to predict what they need, and seem happy to live in any condition they are kept in. Live better, and longer then G gramastolas in crappy conditions as far as I have seen. Grow faster too!

I love this particular species, I'm just waiting on a male to breed with my female and I also had a subadult male waiting to mature in about a years time. As far as food goes... They're the 'Miss Piggy' of the tarantula world, they will quite happily eat everything and anything {D . I've also found that they will burrow a lot more than other Brachypelma's especially as spiderlings, so do allow for that.
As they get older they will most likely prefer dry substrate, so a water dish will be needed. As others said, just keep the substrate slightly moist for the sling.
Good luck :D

Thanks every body for the information. I think Mord will be especially happy at the fact that he/she gets to eat 3-4 times a week!!! Every time I go by its vial, it will pop out if its little burrow to investigate if theres any food to be had. lol

Well, mine (range from 1" to 1.5" or so)don't seem to be quite so voracious as y'all's do...although it may be that I just don't feed them as often, mainly because they spend so much time on the bottom of their jars, at the end of their 6" tunnels. They're real little miners. They don't seem to come up for air (or food) very often, but they may do so when I'm asleep or out.

Mine don't get fed all that often either, I do find that if offered food, they will rarely refuse a meal.

See now I'm puzzled........

Because i purchased my B.Albo sling this saturday. I've offered it THREE pinhead crickets and she won't eat.

IN FACt, when I purchased her she borrowed all through her deli container.
Once I got her home, I added more substrate to her d.c (preventing injury from falling)

and she hasn't borrowed. she just sit's on top of the substrate. That's all. Won't eat.. won't borrow.

AM I JUST PANICKING?

My B. vagans sling ate the second day I had it but refused another feeding around a week later. I'm going to try tonight and see how he does.
