A. bicegoi? Anyone?
that is possible since this species has a brownish tint when young, as does mine. The abdomen colour also seems to match, although since my T is under 3", google images probably help much, I can only find adult and sub adult pics.

Nice Avic. avic.. Bighairy I think had the best A.metallica picture I've seen. From What I remember metallica looking like back in the 90's was an animal with a completely black abdomen, no red.

no it looks more like this, it looks more like that. thats impossible to id other than the fact that it is avicularia genus. if you need to know send off a molt to be examined and maybe they can give you a more accurate answer.

At the end of the day if it’s one of A.avic complex (i.e. what are labelled A.avic/A.met ect) no one is going give you a 100% answer based on pictures moults DNA or really anything else to be fair.

Can any one say for sure that any spider sold today as A.avicularia is really A.avicularia sensu Linnaeus 1758 but is his type material even still about to be used?, There were redescription papers written after his but were any of the redescriptions that followed based on his type/types?, same with A.metallica.

I don't think these spiders being exported/bred as A.avic and A.met have ever been ID'ed to the original type's (if they still exist) they have only ever been classified from there area of export and the info of general appearance in description/redescription papers.

A prof from cambridge university aparently cross bred a p.regalis & a p. fasciata about 3 years ago.

could so called breeders for the pet trade get these mixed up & cross breed them?? is this possible??

Ts such as b.smithi & b.auratum have very close dna, so i guess these things can happen. i know in the wild they live at oppisite ends of mexico & would be a 1 in a million chance of them coming together......but in captivity?
so could this have happened with your avic??????? :?

i am far from any expert infact i am very new to this but that spidey looks like an ecuadorian tree spider...i am proberbly wrong though.

ok!!! tell me to shut up :embarrassed: until i learn a little more.

Most likely, since you found it in a pet store, it's an A. avic or A. metallica, not one of the slightly "rarer" or less "mainstream" avic species. But it is hard to say. I doubt (or would at least hope) it's not a deliberate hybrid of some sort. I'd wait til it molts and send that molt off to an expert if you really want to know. Other than that, just be happy you have a really cool avic! :D

Im not sure about that since this same petstore also carries species like the king baboon, M.robustum, pokies and other non beginner, not cheap T's. Money wise it would be hard to tell since this avic cost 80 USD

Nick, so many avics look very similar (to me anyway). If I didn't purchase my A avics and my A metallica as such, I wouldn't know what they were either. Whatever it is, any Avic is okay by me!!!!

Its the same with me, but sometimes I get curious. Their stride is great with those pink feet.

I dont think its an avic. avic.
And it makes me think about.... crossbreeding!
Avics and brachys genus are easier to crossbreed.
