This Avic was labelled A.metallica at the petstore, however I have my doubts. Its about 3" legspan. Let me know what you guys think. I'm so happy to finally have an avic, no matter what species, theyre all great.

Thanks
Nick

I agree it looks more like an A. avic. If I remember correctly, aren't their opisthosomas usually more reddish than metallicas (like this one)? And metallicas have white tipped hairs as well, which yours doesn't appear to have. That would be my call.

It looks more like a Metallica to me, but I could be wrong. Look at the leg hair differance in these pics:

A. Metallica

A. Avicularia

My metallica does not have any red on the abdomen...it's the same size (~3") and captive bred. Then again, maybe it's getting ready to molt, been 2 months almost...from a side angle it looks like it has some light red/brown towards the bottom. And it could be the lighting, but it does look like it's missing that white highlight effect.

This T confuses me to death. It has the extra bushy leg hairs like its a Metallica and a litte bit more girth like a Metallica....but it has the red opisthosoma like an A. Avic....I dont know much about Metallica's like if they get red on their abdomen at all....Im torn inbetween.

leghairs always end up differently on every pic because of angle/lighting... Got fooled myself quite a few times because pics were a bit odd.

It has the bushy, white tipped hairs on its legs and sides of the abdomen. The abdomen has a red tint. Is there a specific angle you would like to see for better judgement? I'll take more pics later today.

i think that may be a younger specimen than mine as mine does not have nearly that much blue and I know some Avics are blue when small...

here is a pic of my 2" A. huriana a few days ago (sorry about the size):

it's got a bit of a red sheen on the abdomen...more pronounced than my metallica but this huriana molted less than a month ago.

and a pic i just took of my metallica...not the best detail though:

I have a pic of my metallica when i received it before this last molt...but it's at a bad angle and not good detail on anything but the feet.

It does look alot like the one waldo posted. A little less blue, but that could be due to the fact that its in premolt, and still young.
