I'm sorry to say that I have no type of camera in the house, so y'all just have to just try and imagine what I'm describing. An at the moment (like 15 min since my last edit) nothing at all is happening. Neither has twitched with a hair. So I've put the lid back on and will now go back to other stuff while they can decide in their own time what they're gonna do, because sitting there staring at them for 15min almost sent me to sleep. Gosh I can almost start imagining what life for a T must be like... worst of all though... I need to pee and I don't wanna risk the cat running out of the bathroom while I'm trying to spread some love.

But I can say one thing about all this: Pointing out the female to the male (more verbally than physically) doesn't help. Whistling the wedding anthom doesn't help. Quietly chanting "Do it! Do it! Do it" doesn't help. And finally, trying to point out the good things with sex doesn't help!

Darn...

Well... this mating attempt ended officially 30 seconds ago. Now I know first hand what hemolymph looks like and besides... looks like she won. I was there when she stalked him but I couldn't be sure if she maybe wanted to invite him or if she wanted to kill him, so I didn't go inbetween. When I noticed it wasn't going as planned it was already too late and trying to forcefully pry them apart didn't work and I didn't wanna push it too far as to not injour her in the process.

I hope he didn't hit her, because at least I wanna have her with me a while longer.

Ok, it's sad, but let's keep this realistic, he was quite old for a male (matured 9 months ago, and eventhough rosea males can get much older than that, I'm not convinced they can get it on during all that time.) And eventhough this is the next worst thing that could have happened (worse if she got tagged instead) I'm still trying to take it all in and seeing it as an experience.

He didn't make any attempt at courtship, which I guess is a pretty bad thing.
He walked once across the tank so he should have had enough web there to scent her, but he didn't react to it.

Whatever may be my fault in this I don't know, but not trying at all doesn't do any good either.

So for me and this learning experience - there's gonna be a time of evaluation and I'm gonna try and think about what to do better and safer in the future but other than that that's it...

Well... RIP old grumpy boy. Your steady thread pose is going to be missed!

At the moment he's on his back, her fangs deep in his sternum, hemolymph gathering (on him only) arround that area, he's still twitching a bit... She had her fangs in the sternum the entire time so I doubt he got her, since his fangs didn't reach her... at least I hope... She won't need to eat for a long time now.

I'm sorry to hear it didnt work I just maited mine and it went good not sure she is preg yet but will keep trying as I hope you will too.Just got to find the right male I know there is alot of rosea aroud here hope you find one for her.

Well I feel your nervousness about this whole tarantula breeding thing as I recently introduced my female rosea to a male loaned to me by someone on these boards.. I was scared big time as I did not want either one to end up as a meal and he has been matured for about 16 months!! he is as sweet as can be while my female can be a little testy.. seems the opposite of your situation but my point is that I don't think your male was too old to mate as I have introduced them twice now and had good results with what looked to be multiple insertions.. the first meeting he literally hooked her fangs and hugged her within seconds of entering her tank.. second attempt they sat there for about 15 minutes but he was a little drummer boy and lured her out to him.. so cute.. and then when the time was right he literaly shoved her backwards over a "hill" of substrate and did his thing.. for a second I thought it was going to turn sour so I stuck my wooden dowel in to intervene and the female crunched on that.. Geez!! she has some big fangs!! and then they seemed to be ok so I let them have at it one more time before removing him as she seems to get a little pissy after about 30 seconds of him courting her.. well good luck next time, and if I get a good eggsack I will be sure to send you a few.. Keep on truckin though as sometimes things don't work out exactly right, but it doesn't necessarily mean you did something wrong
