I found this wolf spider several months ago in my garage. She was covered with slings. I had been wanting one so I kept her. I put the slings in different tanks. When I put her in a bigger tank with some coconut fiber a couple weeks later she dug a 2 inch hole and disappeared for about a week. I thought she may have died but I got up around 2:00am one night and she was out and has another egg sac. So I have been seeing her every once in a while mostly early in the morning. My question is last night she closed up the hole. I am just guessing maybe she did that so the slings can hatch? I am pretty sure it is Hogna lenta. I f I could figure out how to upload a picture for id. wolf with egg sac a.jpg wolf1.jpg wolf with egg sac b.jpg

The few Hogna lenta I kept did close off their burrows about a week before her slings hatched. When they came out, the slings were riding on her back. Most will disperse off her back by 2 weeks' time - a very few smaller slings may take longer to leave the mother. Good luck!

Thanks. I kinda guessed that was happening but this is the first one I had. I think the wolf spiders are awesome spiders but this one has not been much fun because I never see her.
