I learn something every day on here! Thanks, I did not know that. :biggrin:Jorogumo! Japanese culture has neat folklore about these- http://www.obakemono.com/obake/jorogumo/
Also, I was there in the late summer as well and they were literally everywhere! I bet you are probably right and that the species I saw were Nephila clavata! When I lived there, in late summer/fall they were everywhere! Though I think the species I saw were Nephila clavata.
I didn't notice the difference until you posted this! Thanks, I just completed my bachelor of biology and this is my first term working towards my master of entomology! There is so much information to learn, but it will be so worth it. :biggrin:Well from the pic, it looks like the first reply was correct, that's Nephila pilipes. It seems they are much larger and have a smaller red spot on the bottom of their abdomen.
Me too! I didn't declare my major until after I returned home. Someday I will return to Japan and hopefully have the chance to work with more of their arachnids.I wish I had done more entomology/arachnology study there, they have amazing "bugs"!
I understand completely! I was terrible at math and to be honest I am still not that great! But that is why we have tutors and the science resource center. :biggrin:I'm seriously considering going back for a master's in entomology, but I'm hesitant because I heard it requires taking some statistics classes and that they're very difficult.
