My tarantulas water dishes keep drying out

I currently keep 3 slings and a juvenile avic, but their water dishes are evaporating every hour or so (especially my avic and it has a huge dish but much more ventilatio).. its annoying. I put the slings in a box with a bin and filled it with water, but the humidity levels got to about 70. Will this be too muggy or are my t's generally fine if I keep them this way. The little ones substrate has been wet for over a week and won't dry out, but their water dishes sure seem to.

Do you remove and clean the dishes regularly? Sometimes webbing or substrate will cause them to wick out. It can be hard to spot with the naked eye

I don’t give my slings water dishes but will mist sphagnum moss I have in their enclosures and or webbing. They are doing just fine. I recommend maybe taping a hole or two to reduce ventilation. It sounds like you have too much. And I recommend cross venting instead of using holes in the lid of enclosure.

The dishes are clean, I'm just surprised suddenly they are drying out super fast :0 do you think bins could be worth a try? I've seen others do it to keep humidity from escaping but I don't wanna overkill it

They all have cross ventilation! I'm actually worried about whether there is enough or not considering even though the dishes are drying faster the soil hasn't really changed since I piped water down into it

I think as long as the soil is wet you are fine, they can get water from more than just the dish.

If you bury the water dishes so the water surface level is near the level of the substrate,it can wick out easily without much contact with the substrate.
Try keeping water dishes a little bit higher up so the water surface and the substrate can't come into contact with the water that easily.

In my experience it takes quite a bit for water dishes to evaporate. I'm keeping my room quite hot in the colder months,and it usually takes water dishes a day or two to evaporate fully in high temperatures like this.

For the slings either dampen 1/3 of the substrate as needed or throw in a small clump of moss and pipette a few drops of water onto that as needed to keep it moist.



For the Avic just use a larger or deeper dish, for my juvie arboreals I use the caps from tins of shave gel.

Sounds like web wicking

I’ve washed dishes and webbing remained that was not visible to naked eye- water wicked out

I own Avics for eons- never worried about humidity for them or other Ts.

I lived in very dry areas and very humid too, bowls never changed evaporation rates.

also I hope your keeping your Avic dry, I fear for its death with your set up. You don’t need to keep them in that bin, humidity is irrelevant, generally.

and what exactly are the other species in that bin?
