So.. This is my Grammostola Rosea. I'm concerned about his uhh weight. I have had him (assuming its male) since January, never molted. He doesn't eat anything more than what I have read is healthy. I am new here, so please be nice.

I'm just curious if he is unhealthly overweight or not. I have some people telling me 'Yes extremely unhealthly/overweight', I have others saying 'Its fine, probably just getting ready for a molt'. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

It's in early premolt. (which for this species, means that it'll molt somewhere between a few months to a year from now lol) It's healthy. This species doesn't eat much. One cricket every two weeks is more than enough.

Thanks for the help! I have seen people get ripped apart here previously for posting pics of overweight T's, so I was a lil nervous posting.. I appreciate the help regardless!

Looks like he is going to molt soon and when he does your going to be worried he is too thin.. Such is the life of T keepers :banghead:

doesn't look obese but he's definitely got a beer gut. I like them on the fatter side when in premolt though...too bad humans can't just molt and come out shredded lol

My money's on two months :)

Wow! Biggest behind I have ever seen on a G. rosea/porteri past the juvenile stage.

Nothing wrong at the moment as suspect it to pop in a month or so but I would stop feed until after moult.

My gravid female has basically the same abdomen size (though it could be a bit larger.)

"Overweight" ts are not at any health risks...just more at risk of rupture from a fall.

Yours just looks like a normal porteri nearing molt.

Agree 100%. As long at the enclosure isn't tall, (Which for a terrestrial it shouldn't be), and theres no sharp things in the enclosure, then weight isn't an issue.

I'd never let an arboreal get huge though.
