As for the whole "conformation" thing... I totally agree! That baby looks perfect just the way she is!That is a lovely little girl! She has correct conformation, too; I'm really troubled by this trend towards "giant" massive "Pit Bulls" that look like blue hippos! This isn't supposed to be even be a large breed, let alone one that weighs over 100 pounds. Your girl looks a lot like my "Chloey" when she was a puppy.

Teal, no disrespect, but I bred APBT's-the REAL ones-for over 25 years. I had four generations of my own breeding at the time my kennel yard was wiped out by dog nappers, and I had several blue dogs. NONE were these overdone "American Bully"-type dogs; in fact, most of my dogs tended to be more of the terrier type, like the old-style game dogs should be, with males maturing at around 47-52 pounds, chain weight, far less than these blue hippo wannabe's that sport kennel names taken after shaving instruments or Mafia figures. My pups looked very much like Sean's pup, in terms of how they were built, and were linebred on old Colby, Eli and Carver lines, so they were real "bulldogs". I developed a pretty good "eye" for a pup's potential over the years, and I don't see any resemblence between this pup and most of the so-called "American Bully" pups I often see locally, where they are big favorites with the thugs who want to project a tough image, and find the appearance of a real American Pit Bull Terrier falls way short, nor does she look like the pups I see in ads for kennels who specialize in those huge dogs. The "American Bully"(at least some of those breeders now acknowledge that they do NOT have APBT's)pups are almost always heavily wrinkled, a tribute to the recent crosses with English Bulldog and Neopolitan Mastiff that were used, among other breeds, to increase size, bone and width. This pup of Sean's might not be as small as I like my female APBT's to be(around 38 pounds, full-grown), but I seriously doubt she'll be one of those 85-120-pound behemoths that some folks try to pass off as APBT's, either. Not to be rude... but there is NO way to tell that pup's conformation from those shots. She's what, 7 weeks at the most? She could easily grow up to be an Am Bully lookin dog, like most blue 'pit bulls' are. I can guarantee this bitch's parents don't look like true APBTs
No ped on her, Sean? Do you have pictures of her parents?
I know what you mean about the "wipe-outs" of good kennels, and the bad thing is, a lot of this dog thievery is carried out by the Humane Society of the United States, under the guise of "rescuing fighting dogs". Nearly every single owner they've gone after has quickly been proven innocent in court, but by that time, the dogs themselves are dead, victims of the HSUS's pogram against "pit bulls" and domesticated animals in general. At least the people who stole my dogs weren't funded by well-meaning people who thought that they were sending money to save abused animals. As far as I'm concerned, a dead dog is a dead dog, whether it was killed by a dog-fighter or by Wayne Pacelle(or Pacelli-correct spelling, actually).Do you have pictures and peds for dogs you had? What was your kennel name?
I agree, she is probably not going to be a huge Am Bully thing... but she's definitely not going to be what you and I consider a true APBT (I like mine 35lbs n under).
I have been in the breed going on 11 years. I'm not a breeder.. I'm not there yet, and there are enough good people out there doing it already - though with the wipe outs going on with all the good kennels, it's gettin tough
Tarantulas are my 2nd passion... APBTs are my first![]()
If it weighs 145 pounds, it was no Pit Bull Terrier, that's for certain! The breed standard in UKC calls for an animal between 35 and 60 pounds, and the AKC AmStaff standard(the show version of the APBT)calls for a MALE to be no more than 19 1/2 inches at the shoulder, with 18 inches being considered ideal. That's not a big dog at all. I could still lift and carry my largest males back when I still bred these dogs, and often DID carry them into the woods until the Catahoulas bayed up a wild hog, and I'm only 5' 2". Like I said in an earlier post, there are a LOT of breeders out there crossbreeding APBT's to American Bulldogs, Cane Corso Mastiffs, Neopolitan Mastiffs, Bullmastiffs and Dogue de Bordeaux Mastiffs(the Turner and Hooch breed) just to get these huge, massively-built, mostly-blue dogs that they can sell for big bucks as "Pit Bulls", knowing that people who normally are attracted to a huge, mean-looking, intimidating dog with strong guarding instincts will readily shell out a couple of K's to have one, while passing up a real APBT. You don't see many wannabe thugs walking 35-pound dogs these days; they want something as huge and thick as possible, so there are unscupulous breeders who will be happy to sell them a mixed-breed Mastiff to placate their insecure egos. The "T" in APBT stands for TERRIER, after all, and terrier breeds are not going to be huge dogs. The other reason, besides huge size, that some of these breeders(who often have well-known kennel names, frequently assoicated with shaving instuments or Mafia figures)use Mastiff crosses is to get a dog that has a guard dog temperament, since real APBTS are NOT guard dog material at all! Game dog breeders culled(as in killed)any dogs which showed any aggression towards humans whatsoever, for whatever reason, and as a result, you have a breed which doesn't understand the concept of "stranger" or that not all humans are nice. That is why it's so easy to steal these dogs, to just drive up in someone's yard and load up dogs into your car or truck and go, with the dogs happily wagging and licking your face, even though they've never seen you before and you are taking them away from their home. I lost four generations of my dogs in one afternoon, from little barely-weaned puppies to their 11 1/2-year-old great-great grandmother, to dog thieves, and that's one of the reason I do not breed APBTs any longer. I can't go through that again. You couldn't do that with my Catahoula Leopard Dogs, with that Molosser guarding temperament, I can assure you.very pretty pup! i have never had a pitbull, normaly i prefur german shepards, but you cant say they arent gurgus! lol a freind of mine has one of those massive pitbulls, he weighted in at 145lbs the other week. people say pits are dangrus and mean, but this massive dog was playing in a 2 and 4 year old kids with no problems. with pits that have been trained to kill other dogs in the ring i dont think its possible to get it out of them, but people have and should try to. again very pretty pup and i hope you have her for a LOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG time!![]()
