da_illest,
depending on the size, it can hurt like hell when you get hit. My 4 foot BCI nailed me in the face, and it was painful for a few minutes. However, I didn't pull away. If you yank back, the wound tears open, and your snake will lose teeth.
The fact that one of my snakes might lose teeth, (and working around expensive snakes in a petshop) stopped me from yanking away..

I don't know about Ernie, but I handle mine everyday. It depends if they're shedding. If that's the case, I wait. You think that's big, you should see the head on a full grown Retic.
Peace, light & eternal love..

p.s., it stings when they hit you, like a pin stabbing you. Now, this goes without saying but, the pain level is greater with a bigger snake..

I'm still waiting for Obscenity to cite me a source to substantiate his claim of the "18 foot Boa"......LOL....:?

Oh, it hurts at the moment it bites you, but I think its more scary than painful. Your never ready to have a boa strike at ya. At least I'm not. I've never been bitten so hard that teeth were left in me either. Knock on wood.

I also hold mine every day. I mean every day.
The little female I just received said hello right out of the package by striking at me. She was stressed by the shipping and relocation. So I've been holding her extra, and passing her around to the other members of the household. She seems calmer now. LOL
