My two new Boa's arrived Tuesday.
I finally found a pair of Het albino's on the web after 6 months of looking.
The female is 2 months older than the male and about twice as large. Just shows how fast they grow at a young age.
I'm really excited about breeding them as soon as their big enough.
I bought them from Pro Exotics in Denver Co.. What a great operation. If you haven't seen there site, you should. Its owned by Chad Brown, the outside linebacker for the Seahawks.
He invested enough money in it to make it the nicest exotic animal business in the country. IMO... Just shows what being a millionaire can do for your business.
They have allot of breeding projects going. They are big into Monitors. They use Ultrasound as one of their tools for monitoring the eggs they hatch. There's also some live video to check out. Its worth a look.:)
I bought a Temp. Gun too. What a great tool!! I thought my cages were set up pretty well without it. After getting one, I can see how badly they actually were setup. The hot and cold side were off by as much as 10 degs. I'd say its a must have if your into Reptiles.
I'll post some pictures later today.:D

Hey, I just took a look at their site.

Rightnow, I can tell you to forget the stuff that I said about Red Tailed Boas. The albino and the snow are incredibly beautiful. I would love to get one of either. I didn't see any priceing aviailable, but I imagine that these beasts have to be incredibly expensive.

The albinos have dropped but are still up there at anywhere from a grand to 1500 ish. The snows are way up there still as they are a pretty new morph in comparison and far less of them are around.

What is the general timespan for a $1500 snake to become a $350 snake?

They can get up to 18 feet, but that's pretty rare. 8 to 12 is a pretty good guess.

Ernie has been bit before, by what not sure but I know he's been lit up by some ball pythons at petco. hehe I think after having and being with snakes for a while that nervous thing goes away.

Jon,
No. That's one reason they are so popular. They get about 7'- 8', but some have been known to exceed 11' and weigh 60 lbs.
Depends on how much their fed and how often. Some people power feed their boa's to get them to breeding size faster. But that's a bad idea, cause it makes them obese and shortens their lifes by half or more. At least this seems to be the consensus around the herp forums.

da_illest,

Thanks man. Yes I've been tagged by a few snakes before, but it was from my own stupidity. One of my old Boa's ( 7'er ) was eating and it had just finished. I reached into its cage without washing my hands first and still smelled like rat. BANG!! it nailed me on the hand. It bled quite a bit, but was no big deal.
99% of snake bites come from owner mistakes and 1% are flukes.
IMO. :)

thanks a lot bro! that's relieving, i've heard a couple people say that to me and each time i get more relaxed about it.. mainly cause i just got a ksb and don't want to get tagged much.. i feel a little tense sometimes when handling it. :8o Although i heard that a snake that small can barely even brake skin so i kinda want to know what it feels like so take away some of that tension... not that i'll provoke it as i wish to never get bit but i prefer it now while it's a little baby!

Btw, i had a 30-35 year old friend that had snakes, piranas, and all these other pets... he even breeded rats! well he had 4 snakes; one was a 8 foot reticulated python (Sable), one 6 foot boa constrictor (Goldberg), 2 bermese pythons around 3 feet (boots and trunks)... well believe it or not this was a few years ago and my friend and his dad lived in scott's basement so me and my friend used to chill up with scott a lot.. this is when i grew a passion for snakes, watching them eat and holding them.. i liked it! until a scary experience i had!

one time i had Goldberg the boa around my neck on the couch and we where all talking and whatever when the snake suddenly comes up to my face, Right inbetween my two eyes and about 5-6 inches from them, and started flicking his tongue while i looked at him for a bit... MAN was i shook! i'm started shaking a bit all scared and said to scott, "uh scott, get this thing off me man" this is when scott starts playing around by telling me that that's what they do before striking and told me to be very still and not breathe when finally he came and grabbed the snake off me and put it away! they laughed at me for DAYS!!

he even told me that once two of his big snakes which where living together in a HUGE tank he had got in a fight and wrapped up each other.. he couldn't get them off each other so he put the in the bathtub and hosed them down with cold water until they let go! i don't know if it was 100% true as scott was kind of a drinker if you know what i mean but it sure sounds crazy!

What is this guy smokin? Cuz I want some if you've seen an 18 foot Boa! LMAO......the biggest they get is 15 MAYBE....and thats a BCC, not BCI. Columbians RARELY get over 8 feet.

BCC or BCI, a boa is a boa to me, mainly due to a lack of interest. Either way, 18 feet is a reported length for at least one boa, disputed or otherwise. It's all a matter of whether you want to believe it or not.

Please....cite me a source. I would be VERY interested in seeing this claim substantiated.
