I was more of a python guy and the girlfriend made me start picking up some tarantulas here and there.
She was VERY afraid of spiders... till she finally held a rose hair and fell in love with tarantulas. Started with a pink toe (A. avic).. then a cobalt blue (H. lividum) a week later. Now we have in addition to those two an african trap door (unsure of species), 2 indian ornamentals (P. regalis) one male one female, a nice A. versicolor sling, and a vietnamese tiger (H. longipes)

Both haplopelmas act the same. Pet holes you rarely see and are very mean when you try to transfer them to a diffrent enclosure. I was considering getting rid of them because of the pet hole aspect. I really liked them at first but now I think they are taking up space pokies could better utilize.
The P. regalis are my favorite we have now which is why I'm trying to base most of my collection about the pokies. There are alot of really nice ones. Trying to get as many as I can. The only con would probly be they can be pretty fast and their bites from what I read would hurt but thats not really too much of a con if you are very careful with them.
I'm just glad they are an old world species. We are sticking to mostly old world Ts with the exception of some avics and we both like the P. irminia and P. cambridgei. My girlfriend has bad asthma so any species that kicks hairs into the air is out of the question. Which doesnt bother me much because most of the Ts I like are old world. I would have liked a T. blondi or T. apophysis though. =P
My next T order is probly going to be 2 P. mirandas, 3 P. ornatas, 2-3 singapore blues (L. violaceopes) and maybe a suntiger or two (P. irminia) would like to add a P. subfusca on there but they are just a tad over my budget atm.. would rather get a couple of each to kind of ensure a female than to drop 3 or 4 t's to pick up one.

Gotta love loopholes, haha.Hold it now...did she specifically say only 10 TARANTULAS? If so, that still leaves you open for some true spiders and other inverts.

:wall: You don't tell her about the loophole until after you get yourself some sweet true spider or other mygales. Try to get her friendly with a gentle Brachy or one of your nicer ones. It worked with me, when my fiance moved in he had 5 T's and I fed his B. albopilosum and in that moment I had been officially converted to the dark side...now we have 59...haha, going on over 75 in about 2 weeks.Too funny, I told her about this loophole that was pointed out. Now she is talking a signed no more pet/living thing contract.

Hahaha, I'm leaving my loophole a secret. My parents said no more tarantulas, not no more jumping spiders. After Xmas I will have more jumpers.

My wife did the contract thing to me when I got my third tarantula. I signed it and then time passed. Now I have 21Now she is talking a signed no more pet/living thing contract.
Give it time, she will soon give in. It took a couple of years. Secret is if they dont see them, they dont care. I only have my 4 prized ones in the house. the others are in the garage.
Oh and one is really gravid so its alot more than 21
And its in the house!
